when did 'nice' become a dirty word?

Recommended Posts

Football history is littered with successful managers who didnt need to come across in the media as egotistical megalomaniacs but the general concensus here now seems to claim it''s not possible to be nice and be a competant manager, really?

Lets for arguement sake that Rodent was right all along, and that being a barsteward is the key to 3 points every saturday, what has Hughton done so far to be labled as too nice?. Is it that he is softly spoken during his interviews?. Is it that he always seems in check with his emotions, neither too up or down after a game?, well Mr Wenger seems to have done ok for himself in his chosen proffession. Maybe its that he shows respect to the oppersition before and after games? well Mr Fergerson seems to have done ok in his chosen proffession.

99.9% of posters claiming we are not winning because he is too ''nice'' have not spend 1 second in the same room as him let alone have been privy to dressingroom talks etc and have based this opinion on either match of the day interviews lasting 10 seconds or have taken other posters views as gosspel. We even have people saying he''s too nice I want him out and when asked who they want in.. Holloway!, the nicest guy in football (opinion not fact).

I get the fact that his apperences dont get the blood racing, but for me neither did Lamberts interviews, in fact I distintly remember having to hide the kitchen knives after one of his interviews as they were throughly depressing. Its fine if you think another manager would be the best thing currently, but please base you views on something more than ''niceness'' for the love of god.

Well according to my old English teacher, Harry Hawdon (RIP), any use of the word ''nice'' would have resulted in the user being thrashed within an inch of their lives!
