Devils Advocate. 0 Posted January 7, 2011 Why is it that the Lambert to Burnley story has come to a head the day before we are due to play Orient in the cup ?. They have had all week to make an approach for him yet they wait until now to swoop. I seem to remember the same thing happening when Mike Walker went to Everton just before we were due to face Wycombe in the cup, and the club hasn''t really been the same since, apart from the one season in the Premier league. Although it''s completely understandable, the Boards decision to refuse Burnley permission to talk to Paul Lambert may well be the worst thing that they could have done. Lambert may well feel trapped now and angered that he wasn''t given the chance to talk to Burnley, he may well fancy the job now more than he would have done before. If he really wants to look elsewhere, he will simply jack in and leave the clubs to fight it out, again. One name that never seems to be mentioned when a managerial job comes up is that of ex Burnley and Norwich player Mike Phelan and yet he must have something to commend him as he is Alex Fergusons assistant. Phelan stands no realistic chance of taking Fergies job when he retires so does he not fancy a chance to have a go on his own , he would be perfect, as Burnley boss and he might have access to one or two tasty loan signings for them.In closing I must state that I truly hope that Paul Lambert chooses to stay for another couple of seasons, but being a realist I believe that he will be gone over the next few days as the relationship between him and the club has been damaged, perhaps irrevocably. Woman in the Stands (WITS) 0 Posted January 7, 2011 Like so many things, timing is critical. You have reminded me of the Walker situation as I''d forgotten it was that close to the cup game.If nothing else, it has created a lot of unrest amongst the fans, as we see on here, so one wonders what impact it will have on the players and other club staff. Leedscanary 389 Posted January 7, 2011 I really think its a ploy by a Burnley based Binner to take the heat off all our Roy Keane jibes that they would have endured today
Lambert is King 0 Posted January 7, 2011 Personally I think this has been going on a lot longer than a day. Burnley imo just went public on it last night, probably to say you have the job if you resign. Should the worse happen I still feel we should make him serve gardening leave until the end of the transfer window and refuse to sell anyone to Burnley.
