I am a Banana 0 Posted February 12, 2010 After watching MOTD of weds night and seeing Nani''s tackle which saw him see a red, when he got the ball and didn''t touch the aston villa player got me thinking, when will football become to dangerous for the health and safety laws and have to become non contact? First Jedi 0 Posted February 12, 2010 Since when did the "health and safely" laws ever come into it? And where do they come into Boxing and Rugby, for example, to the extent where they are going to affect football? If football becomes (more) non-contact it''s not down to health and safety laws, but the FA pushing a particular agenda... or more over, FIFA pushing a particular agenda. Old Shuck 291 Posted February 12, 2010 FIFA are desperate to promote the game in the US (despite decades of failure to do just that-1994 World Cup failed to do just that, now the US...or, rather, FIFA, want in there again, likely in 2018 or 2022),Asia and the Middle East...and will do whatever it takes (a World Cup in Qatar in 2022-put your money on that right now) to tap into the money and fan bases over there. To FIFA, football in Europe is old hat and has been milked dry. They see our and other European football associations as the old guard, conservative, resistant to change. This is why Jack Walker has so much power and influence; this is why vital World Cup games have refs from nations whose refs take exams and run games that are equivalent to our Sunday morning pub leagues; its why the "World Club Championship" is being pushed more and more to the fore, and why its played in those confederations; its why there is a growing split in UEFA, one which, with the loss of unity in UEFA, reduces its power and influence.FIFA isn''t about the game, its about money, politics, influence and nepotism. One of many of their growing "agendas".I actually think, especially with the growing influence and power of the Champions League-so much money, all in the European game, FIFA are not too chuffed about that-thus, expect the afore mentioned World Club Championship to become ever more influentiual-that UEFA, might, in one way or the other, split from FIFA in due course, and, like so many other sports -its happened in boxing, snooker, darts even; and is happening in cricket-there will be more than one governing world body. He slid in with his studs showing if he had made contact it would have been quite nasty.
