mattso 0 Posted November 21, 2009 Thought it was generally a good performance in tricky conditions. The result could have gone either way in a game with two dodgy looking defences at times. They had chances in the first and were the better team and at times they were playing like they were the away team, counter attacking, in the second I thought we were the best team by far. Its a pity both their goals were due to us standing off and not closing the player and ball quick enough! Despite this their second was a great goal.FORSTER 7 Solid, great save in the second half. Seem to always make me nervous though when he''s kicking the ball.OSTOM 6 OK but frustarating at times, felt he should get into 5th gear a few times and use his pace against their full back. Sideways passing.DOC 6 Got better as the game went on. in the run up to the first goal could of attempted a 50/50 to win the ball but dropped off and they subsequently scored.ASSOU 6 Solid and no nonsense at times (which is not a bad thing). Too one footed but dealt with everything OKDRURY 7 MOM Sound at the back and looked good going forward, linking play very well. Excellent crossing, picked out Holt with a glorious cross which we nearly scored from. Tireless.RUSSELL 6 Good performance, solid. Broke things up and kept things ticking.SMITH 6 At times lacked a bit of pace and out muscled, but worked hard.HOOLAHOOP 7 Played well, looked our most dangerous player at times. Creative and linked things together well. Sometimes wants to do a little too much. Influential.LAPPIN 6 Good left foot but crossing not upto speed today. Again thought he was lacking pace at times which causes problems or makes attacks break down too often.HOLT 6 Not his greatest game but worked his socks off. Could of done better with a couple of chances and was really unlucky with a glancing shot that flew just wide. Felt he got a bit aggro a few times which works against him later. One time thought he was going to headbutt the linesman as he was eyeballing him so close after a bad call - got a good telling off by the ref and immediately after calls didnt go his way when on another day they would of. Captain fantastic.MARTIN 7 Great feet! Won one pen should of got another. Clever - both times just drew the man in, he pokes the ball away as they lunge. Just missed out on MOM in my opinion. Good performance.SUBS Didnt do much in the time they had apart from hughsie great follow up on a Martin (i think) shot. Thought Southampton were a lot better than against Brighton the other day. All in all an ok result. They would be close to us in the league if it wasnt for the points deduction. Thought their attacking trio of Lambert, Connolly and Lalana looked good - can see why some of the big boys like Lalana.Off to dry off and have my dinner, goodnight! Canary Man of Kent 0 Posted November 21, 2009 I would drop wes to a 6. Got caught in posession a few times and was at fault the first goal. Rusty bollocked him for a good two mins! Him being subbed spoke volumes I felt.I would consider bumping smith up to a 7 too. Agree about martin, he would have been my mom, convinced that was a pen! Looking forward to seeing it tonight. Today showed for me why we need wingers. 4312 left us very exposed down the flanks.
Berks Canary 0 Posted November 21, 2009 Was at the match today and I have to agree that Wes going forward is always a threat but in midfield he is liable to lose the ball and put us under pressure, as with their 2nd goal. A good alround performance and Lambert did well to change it to stop their threat on the flanks. Another great away day from the fans!
Hooleyfan 0 Posted November 21, 2009 Sorry guys but Semmy was a 5 for me today...lacked passion, didn''t get close enough to the attacking players...lacked ambition going forward and you will see that he was at fault for their second by his slack pass and failure to track back and put the attacker under pressure allowing him to get that good strike in, which Forster had no chance with. He should have been doing the same as Drury on the opposite side...is it match fitness? ...is it confidence? ...does he lack a good footballing brain? I really despair with this player. Jim Smith 2,339 Posted November 22, 2009 Russell was better than a 6. thought Wes had one of his poorer games. Agree with the rest though.
The Chirp 0 Posted November 22, 2009 how on earth has askou only got a six. 8 minimum.Ask any saints fan about the job Askou did on Ricki Lambert... I was in the saints end infact and heard a few times... that number 33 is having a blinder... or, lambert''s in his pocket... Askou was by far our man of the match. Made one outstanding tackle to deny a certain goal in the second half. funny how people see things differently.
Here We Go 0 Posted November 23, 2009 Iam sorry but semmy played well, for the first goal he would of got to lallana (sp?) if askou didnt get in his way, and in the second half he made a excellant block to denie southhampton a third goal at 2-1 he worked his socks off again.Apart form that tiny rant we played well and the never say die attitude that lambert has installed is brilliant. The Chirp 0 Posted November 23, 2009 don''t remember a block by semi in the second half... i was at that end and the guy who made the block was 100% askou. If semi was in his position he wouldn''t have had to get past askou in the first place... sorry but semi was average at best on sat... The Chirp 0 Posted November 23, 2009 scrap the bit on positioning for their first goal... semi was cutting into the left to stop the shop... askou hardly got in his way though... the mistake was further upfield. on the second goal you have to say though how much time did connolly have to shoot... Here We Go 0 Posted November 23, 2009 Semi was in his position wasnt he coming in form the right to get to him, askou got beaten easily, and hoolihan shouldn''t of passed to no one.Iam sure semi got a block in the second half. Also there second goal semi was tracking there winger and i think it was lappin was runnin away from the guy that scored the goal.i dont think it was one of those you can lay all the blame at his feet, there were others there that were also badly positioned and moving away from the ball.
