Paul Ince used to manage MK Dons.. Paul Ince manages Blackburn.. clearly rates the guy... i read something last season about ince saying he reckon Andrews could play for his country if he applied himself right...

Guess he''s got the chance to prove it now.

jas :)

blackburn are one of the few clubs that ever take players from the two lower divisions. it has to be said, it has only been with limited success, but i suppose at limited cost and risk as well.

....I can just imagine the sort of response GR would get if he did this sort of thing; getting a player from a lower division side would be enough for some to lose the plot big-time!  The sad thing is that getting a few gems from the lower leagues is the sort of thing that we should be looking to far more than we currently are.

Damned right!

We seem to have a bit of tunnel vision when it comes to lower division football, or even looking at the senior leagues in Ireland.

Leeds got Beckford from Wealdstone FFS, look at him now. Reading got Doyle from Ireland, no bugger had heard of him, even at Reading-wonder what they''ll get for him if and when he moves though?

Our targets, for permanent signings anyway, seem to be players that haven''t made it at a higher level-you wonder why and also, if its a state of mind or something similar, if they aren''t going to think "...fuck, its only bloody Norwich..." and thus be no better for us.

ALL transfers are gambles. But you would think that someone from the lower league who is doing well and, crucially, has been scouted well, might not have something to prove and give everything he has if someone at a higher level gives him a chance?

Drinkell was a great player for us AND we made a profit on him. He''s been banging them in for Grimsby for a few seasons, but no-one seemed to want to gamble on him, well, we did, and it came off. Shame we don''t seem to have the ability to do that anymore.

Of course, for every Drinkell, there are a dozen flops, but, even so-this apparant Iversen or no-one stance we are taking -and at the excuse of misisng out elsewhere-is, if that really is the case-and please, its not!-is getting a bit ridiculous.

Trouble is, lower league players aren''t available for the proverbial song anymore-James Brown, £3 Million quoted for example!

[edit] Career

[edit] Wolverhampton Wanderers

Andrews began his career as a trainee at Wolves, progressing from their academy to the first team. He made his senior debut on 18 March 2000 in a 2-1 win at Swindon. He continued his progress with the First Division club in the 2000/01 season, becoming a regular player as Dave Jones took over midway through. The final match of that season saw him become their youngest captain for over a hundred years, at 21 years old, in a game against QPR.

He signed a new four deal deal the following season but found himself out of the starting line-up after a bunch of new midfielders were acquired in the summer, resigning him to the substitutes bench and sporadic appearances over the next few seasons. To gain playing time, he spent half of the 2003/04 season on loan at Stoke City and the latter half at Walsall. He did however return to Molineux in between to make his only Premier League appearance against Newcastle.

The midfielder returned to Wolves team post-relegation in 2004/05 and gained his most appearances for the club during that season. However, he moved on at the end of his contract to join Hull City. In total, he made 72 appearances for the Midlanders, scoring once (in a League Cup tie at Rochdale).

[edit] Hull City FC

His new start with the Tigers saw him sidelined again though, as he picked up an injury in only his second appearance for the team - in a match against his previous team, Wolves. He returned to the team in December after nearly four months out and featured in all but one of their remaining fixtures.

[edit] Milton Keynes Dons

After a single year at Hull, he moved to Milton Keynes Dons of League Two for the 2006-07 campaign where he became club captain. He lost out on promotion in the play-offs, despite scoring in the semi-final tie with Shrewsbury Town.

However the next year, now under the managerialship of his former Wolves team-mate Paul Ince, brought Andrews success. He scored the winning goal in a match at Stockport County on 19 April 2008 that saw the club promoted to League One, and also scored the opening goal of their 2-0 victory over Grimsby Town in the Football League Trophy at Wembley.

The summer of 2008 saw Andrews linked with a move to the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers, where he would be reunited with his former Dons manager Paul Ince. On 21st July 2008, new Dons manager Roberto di Matteo said he was hopeful Andrews would remain at the club,[1] however The Sun reported on July 30th that Blackburn are "ready to swoop" for Andrews.

On 27 August 2008, Blackburn Rovers first-team coach Archie Knox confirmed a fee had been agreed with MK Dons for the transfer of Andrews to Blackburn Rovers pending a medical. The transfer should be completed by the end of the transfer window.

He''ll be shockingly bad in the Prem.  Have seen him play a fair few times and don''t understand what all the fuss is about.

He only looks half decent at MK Dons because he had a holding midfielder behind, an attacking midfielder in front of him & 2 wingers doing all the work and he trys to play the same ball every time.

Lloyd Dyer & Mark Wright were the real talent in that midfield last season.
