Houston Canary 0 Posted July 25, 2008 26 minutes in and DEAN ASTON scored for West Ham vs MLS AllStar team. A minute later, MLS scored on a stretched out ROBERT GREEN. The game is in Toronto, and the fans are chanting for their hometown boy who plays for their hometown team (and ex-Canary) JIM BRENNAN to be put into the game. MLS has not lost against foreign teams in the previous 4 AllStar games, and this is the first time MLS has actually been behind, albeit for one minute. Waiting to see if the IFC tries anything stupid again. 4 minutes ot half time.
YankeeCanary 0 Posted July 25, 2008 A good goal to put the MLS All-Satrs ahead 2-1.
Houston Canary 0 Posted July 25, 2008 I expect to see massive lineup changes for the 2nd half, especially got the MLS team. Brennan will definitely be on. You can''t be chjosen for an All Star team and be stuck on the bench the entire time.I was not sure who I wanted to win at kickoff, but as the game progressed, I found myself getting exicted when MLS was pressuring and feeling worried when West Ham went forward, so I guess I am more for the MLS than WH, although I am delighted that their goal was scored by Ashton. Maybe next year we will be watching Huckerby for the MLS All Stars!
Houston Canary 0 Posted July 25, 2008 67 minutes in and DEAN ASHTON scores when his hard shot is deflected in the opposite direction, leaving the goalie just standing there. OOOOhhhhhhhhhh, DeRosario (Houston Dynamo) just got fouled in the box!!!!!
Houston Canary 0 Posted July 25, 2008 69 minutes, and DeRosario (Toronto-born boy, too) crushes it into the back of the net from the penalty spot, MLS 3- WH 2.4-2!?!?!?! no, called offside. Still 3-2 but MLS is ALL OVER the Hammers right now.
Houston Canary 0 Posted July 25, 2008 Final score 3-2 and David Beckham was not chosen as MVP despite all the fawning over him. YAY MLS!
First Jedi 0 Posted July 25, 2008 "You can''t be chjosen for an All Star team and be stuck on the bench the entire time."Er... it''s *got* to happen to someone - since there are more players on the bench than subs allowed...?
astrodyne 0 Posted July 25, 2008 Give em another few years and this will be the ''World Series of Soccer''..........
Houston Canary 0 Posted July 25, 2008 since there are more players on the bench than subs allowed...? - ob1I don''t think so. They used a heck of a lot of subs, at least 6. I know you can use 6 subs for friendlies, and they may have had even more since this was a special game. You know, waive the sub limit rule for this one encounter so everyone gets on the field and to keep the fans of all the different players on the All Star team satisfied that "their guy" got in some playing time.As for the follow up comments, I am sure it won''t ever become the World Series of Football ever because it is an All Star game, not any sort of championship match. The MLS Championship will become the World Championship when the teams become wealthy enough to attract the top talent the world has to offer, making the MLS teams by far the best out there, much like baseball, hockey and basketball do. I predict that will happen never. Americans just don''t care enough about soccer.
