The Loan Signings Dilemma

Recommended Posts

Having read some of the posts on here this morning regarding last night''s game and having considered the Player Ratings thread, it strikes me that perhaps last night we evidenced one of the key flaws in our reliance on loan signings: the loanees'' home clubs insisting their players get a game.

There was some speculation that Arsenal had been on the blower to Roeder at the weekend making their expectations clear that we either use Gibbs or lose him - equally, Bates seems to have been parachuted into the starting 11 when Semmy has done little wrong. And by the sounds of things, neither player had a very good game last night.

It''s fantastic we maintained our unbeaten run last night and unbelievable that we''re still in with an outside chance of a play-off spot, but this situation with Gibbs in particular could be a difficult one for Roeder to manager. If we''d have stuck with our winning team last night, maybe we could have sneaked another win. However, Glen will be under some pressure to pick Gibbs for the next game otherwise he could be on his way back to the Emirates and we wont get anymore Arsenal loanees moving forward!

I''m sure he''ll get it right.

I agree there is a dilemma here, but over and above that, there is obviously no point in getting these players on loan unless you intend putting them in the team. With someone like Pattison, who we''ve signed permanently, if he''s in the side, on the bench or left out of the squad it doesn''t matter that much, since he''s a long-term prospect. But there is no point Gibbs being at the club if he is not going to play - not necessarily every week, but he must be given a chance. In hindsight, the team was wrong last night. But the Championship is a tough league, and Hull were a big, strong, physical side. Not unrealistic to expect it might take someone like  Gibbs a couple of games to get up to speed.I think Arsenal''s expectations are not that important. If Gibbs can''t get in the team, and Arsenal recall him, so what? The only problem I can see is Wenger being reluctant to loan us any more players. But if Pat Rice was at the game last night, he could hardly complain if Gibbs isn''t in the side on Saturday - he did nothing to demand a place.

I agree there''s no point getting loan players in then not playing them, but then changing a winning team to accommodate them seems equally silly.

Definitely not suggesting we shouldn''t have given Gibbs a run-out last night, or that we dissmiss him on the basis of last night''s performance but can''t help thinking that we changed our approach in order to keep the donor clubs happy - will be interesting to see how this one plays out.

so many games in this league also many tuesday-saturday games so this"not change wining team" is bla bla it is 21 century there is large squads there is rotations etc are u have any idea how feel DIon at 37 and Camara 33 playng evry 3 days?

Nothing wrong happen!

Glen try to make some rotations play was not positive but we have Camara and Semmy fresh and they will receive his places very soon.

I think DIon badly need rest too even we not have alternative here but playing full 90 min evry 3 days is so hard for sure at age of 37+.

Also why we have Henry and Gibbs on loan if they not play single minute for us?Its simple manager give them chanse they failed then again out etc etc.

Its always easy after game to be very smart all and say Glen was wrong but after game is easy to talk...

Also dont forget that we not shine on any of previuse games!I was on Southampton and we was extremly lucky to win that one because they have 3 post/bars one missed penalty + many other danger attack....then home PNE quite average game against team with many missed players 1 chanse whole game and one lucky shoot at inj time and we win....then Cardiff better play but again fayr result is draw again inj time strike and we is 3/3 wins how deserved how lucky?

Glen do amaizing job qpr-norwich 3-0 i watched too I never see last 20 years so poor and rubbish play from Norwich and now 3 months later we expekt Glen to make wonder and almost same players to win evry single game and manager to not make any mistakes!

take care and simply be behind the manager and the team Glen know what to do it and rotations is part of modern game!
