Lord Horn 0 Posted August 19, 2007 Great turn out yesterday, particularly compared to the likes of WBA, Watford and Stoke. Southampton support was p**s poor even compared to Barnet. Few empty seats but always the same in August.

Southampton support was p**s poor even compared to Barnet. Few empty seats but always the same in August.[/quote]I was just about to start a thread on the same subject. We are streets ahead of most teams in terms of support, but why?If you look at the Saints programme and the pictures of old games the ground was half empty. So were grounds all over the country. My view is that the board (much maligned on here at times) decided that bums on, what would otherwise have been empty, seats would make sense. So they flogged season tickets for kids at £17. I took my kids who initially were not interested, but for £17 per year, if they didn''t come to every game I didn''t care and if they decided not to come again, likewise. My son is now a season ticket holder in his own right. Or could it be that the shopping is so good in Norwich that the men are quite happy to come here on a Saturday whilst his partner shops Who is to say, what''s your theory? Quantum 0 Posted August 19, 2007 Palace barely managed 15,000 yesterday against Leicester (who many are tipping to be in the promotion mix), which I''m reliably informed is their lowest league attendance for nearly four years. Pretty shocking really, though they will probably argue people were on holiday, and they are overcharged for their tickets...
splendidrush 0 Posted August 20, 2007 We had more at the Carra than there were at half the Prem games on Saturday.....meanwhile the Binners are paying rent on a 30,000 seat stadium and could only fill 23,000 of them on the opening day! (wink)
Unlucky Fried Kitten 0 Posted August 20, 2007 Why are attendances relatively low this season? Could it be that people are growing disillusioned with an overhyped, overpriced and often dreary unexciting product. Also there does tend to be a little bit too much football at times. Correct me if I''m wrong, but I think there is a live game on TV every day of the week either on Sky or Setanta and occasionally on ITV and the BBC as well. Football does remarkably well to keep the masses as interested as they are considering the over-the-top blanket coverage it gets. Maybe if there was a bit more rationing of the product (football) on TV people might start to return to attending matches again.
foxile 0 Posted August 20, 2007 Your right, there are some poor attendances around in this division, i was surprised that our attendance of 26,650 against Blackpool is the highest in the championship so far. I think it''s quite sad to see clubs like Portsmouth, Wigan, Fulham, Reading, Bolton and Birmingham with low attendances in the premiership, when the there are clubs like Leeds, Forest, Leicester, Norwich and the two Sheffield clubs that would fill their stadium most weeks at the top of this division and of course in the premiership. Good start for your boys, although slightly fortunate in the Southampton game with them scoring a second. [:D]
Shyster 0 Posted August 20, 2007 Yeah, well done against the mighty Blackpool by the way.[:D]
foxile 0 Posted August 20, 2007 [:)] The most one sided game ive seen in a long time but we couldn''t hit the back of the net, just the woodwork six times. [:$] Should have bought Campbell on earlier, De Vries is useless. Should turn it round for a top ten finish though, which would be a vast improvement, doubt it would please Milan though.
