Stevo 0 Posted June 27, 2007 Neil Doncaster''s always said that City prefer to keep their business quiet until it''s all done and dusted and even admits it''s frustrating for the fans. But aren''t we missing something? When we receive a bid for a player shouldn''t we announce it to the world in the hope of starting a bidding war? We sold Dean Ashton to West Ham on the quiet. I''m not saying we would of got more for him but it seems every time City make a bid for someone, the selling club immediately make it public in the hope that it alerts other clubs.....Sharp, Eastwood....Clinton Morrison last year. If and when the vultures come circling round Earnshaw I hope the club decide to play the game that every other club do and shout it from the rooftops rather than the usual ''nothing to report'' garbage. I''m not even sure Charlton ever made a proper bid, but we said they did, which pretty much brought West Ham out of the closet.I believe the above mantra only really works when you''re trying to sign someone, unless the buying club offer a significant enougb amount of money to request the deal is kept hushed. All good fun. Grando 336 Posted June 27, 2007 A conspiracy theorist would suggest that they deliberately broadcast their interest in players they have no real intention of signing.I''m not necessarily suggesting that, but can see how you could argue it that way... Stevo 0 Posted June 27, 2007 Fair point about Greeno. I just felt that the Ashton deal was done and dusted very quickly and very quietly and maybe we missed a trick by adopting our ususal ''no comment'' stance until the point where he was ready to sign on the dotted line. Might have been that West Ham were the only club prepared to meet that price but who knows who else might have come out the woodwork and matched or topped that bid if we''d gone public? Salopian 1 Posted June 27, 2007 And if the other team asked us to keep it under a wraps for a time, because they are like us?
