YellowRoad 0 Posted August 14, 2006 The withdrawal on Sunday of team captain Robbie Keane (‘Spurs), Terry Dixon (‘Spurs), Richard Dunne (Manchester City) and Alan Lee (Ipswich Town) brought to six the number of absentees from the squad named by Stephen Staunton for Wednesdays’ match against the Netherlands. The Irish manager admitted his disappointment when he said: “It’s far from ideal to lose so many of the squad through injury. “As a result, we are without some of our leading players and with this being the final opportunity to test ourselves prior to the start of the European Qualifying campaign, that’s very disappointing”, he added. To fill those gapes in attack Staunton has called up Jonathan Douglas (Leeds United) and Daryl Murphy (Sunderland). The withdrawal of Richard Dunne must impact significantly on Staunton’s planning for the Dutch game for he and Andy O’Brien (Portsmouth) were the ''only regular centre-backs named in the squad''. So why no Gary Doherty ... Mr Staunton ???

Dont forget in his last training session, our Doc nearly broke the hand of Shay Given when he got carried away and stood on it. Hasnt been picked since
