lucky green trainers 0 Posted March 6, 2006 little over 2 years ago, we saw the almost messianic arrival of darren huckerby on the carra rd pitch when he signed for city, and who can forget delia''s famous onwards and upwards speech. The fans, playing/management staff and board were united as one. all worthy''s signing came off imediately, leon''s debut - top of the league at portman rd, what a juicy double. we gained promotion in a thrilling season culminating with the emotional city hall celebration, what a day that was.lets not forget the role the fans played. they gave their support by encouraging the team and by season tickets in record numbers, attracted because of the spirit of the club, its success on the pitch and the electric atmosphere at carra rd. However, as importantly, they paid for share issues - how many millions, i''m not sure - and in fairness the board matched their financial commitments with their own money as well (didn''t they).Despite the fact they bought these shares, knowing they afforded no voting rights, do these shareholders have the right to give an opinion on the worthy in/out debate? They all signed up for delia''s dream in the good time, so do they now have a moral right to give their verdict on this disappointing season. you may say, they could give an opinion why selling, but as supporters that would probably hurt the club.in my view, you can''t ask for the support of ordinary shareholders in one breath, then when important decisions have to be made exclude them completely from the process. of course the club, engages and communicates well, but in my view they''ve misread the feelings of the majoirty of city fans - interpretting silence as tacit approval. the protests and barry skippers ill judged and ill timed comments allude to this supposition. the supporters who bought the shares that got us up, put their money up in good faith, and morally, i believe they are all now entitled to be canvassed by the club for their opinion. why, because, if we don''t gain promotion next season, almost certainly the squad they helped to build, will be downgraded in terms of quality - would we be able to afford darren huckerby? Shouldn''t they be consulted before this happens?
