Jersey Canary 180 Posted April 10, 2022 I’m referring to Cantwell. He’s not a young player any more, he can’t get a game under two managers at City and is now warming the bench at Bournemouth in EFL. So, do we save on his £20k pw wages (I’m guessing the value but assume it’s substantial) and let him go for free or extend for a year and hope he gets his head screwed back on and he gets back on track. I suppose for me it’s a £1m financial gamble, but more to the point if Cantwell is that unhappy would you want him around our team ruining morale? What would you do? FenwayFrank 2,717 Posted April 10, 2022 I’m only guessing but I would think that he’s currently on double that
Branston Pickle 4,151 Posted April 10, 2022 It’s a no brainer really, the £11m deal with Bournemouth might not come off but someone somewhere would surely go for him, meanwhile he’d have no transfer value if we don’t extend the contract (I believe he’s over the age where we’d get a development fee)). There’s a risk he stays and doesn’t want to be here but you never know, he might come back and knuckle down if it came to it - the alternative would be to stall his career big-time.
