Web Team - Vince 0 Posted November 23, 2005 EDP, November 18:LeonMcKenzie has taken his first tentative steps towards a comeback.TheNorwich City striker is now back in light training for the first time sincesuffering an ankle injury nearly three months ago and could conceivably be backbefore Christmas if everything goes to plan.McKenzieis refusing to put a time-scale on his recovery right now but manager NigelWorthington revealed on Thursday that the popular frontman could start joiningin with the rest of the squad in a couple of weeks time – so there is certainlysome light at the end of the tunnel for a man who has found it difficult to watchfrom the stands while his team-mates have been struggling.“It hasbeen frustrating sitting on the sidelines watching because I would just love tobe out there playing football and scoring goals,” said McKenzie, who had nettedtwice in seven appearances before picking up the injury at Colney at the end ofAugust.“Eversince I started playing the game professionally I have been living a dreambecause it was always my ambition as a kid to earn my living this way.“Idon’t particularly enjoy watching football from the stands and the fact that wehave struggled for results recently has made it even more frustrating. Butinjuries are all part and parcel of the game and I have just had to get on withit.“Hopefullyby the time I come back we will have won a few games. I just want to get backto full fitness as soon as possible and be available for the second half of theseason.”McKenzieis now perfectly mobile again after his injury setback and was in full traininggear at Colney on Thursday in preparation for some light ball work under theguidance of physiotherapist Neal Reynolds.“I’mrunning again now which is good and I am ready to take the ball out with Neal. We’ll see how that goes - but it’s early days yet,” he said.“I amnot looking too far ahead at present. I am just taking things day by day, trying to kick on the best I can.“Ican’t say when I will be back. But when I do return I think the supporters willknow all about it! I will be raring to go, as I always am.”Havingmissed 14 matches McKenzie is well aware that he has some hard work to do onthe training ground – and in reserve team football – before he is ready for thetough world of Coca-Cola Championship football.“Myoverall fitness is bound to have been affected because I have been out for nearlythree months now,” he said. “It’s going to take a little while to get that backand once that happens then hopefully everything else will fit into the place.”
