Parma Ham's gone mouldy

Parma’s Tactics Masterclass 18

Recommended Posts

@Parma, You ought to read the commments in the thread "Renew or not renew, that is the question"

There is a lot of anecdotal evidence to support my view that football has to be exiting. A lot of people are weighing up whether to renew or not renew their season tickets. And a lot of people are citing ''boring to watch'' football as the reason.

I still maintain football was better back in the day because, although playing to these highly structured systems may win you matches, the result is a sterile and uninteresting end product.

Conflation of cause and effect RTB.

Two highly structured teams, with acutely developed modern systems, played out an hugely entertaining 4-3 pleasing both coach and fan yesterday.

It was a finely-tuned clash of philosophies, based on very precise methodology and organisation - yet it in no way prevented both teams from ‘leaving their heart on the pitch’.

Ron has often commented how he likes to watch old footage of games, and looks back fondly as you do. He also accepts that they were quarter the pace of today, riddled with errors, endless low rent moves and passes, which due to acres of space and disorganisation does indeed typically lead to more chances and goals.

We know have more intelligent coaches, systems, players and analysis. The aim is to make less unnecessary mistakes, not have repeated errors due to blind ignorance of one’s own tactical/Technical/structural failings and to improve the odds of winning.

The apotheosis of this was seen yesterday in a 7-goal thriller that will be repeated for decades.
