  1. My answer is also ''no''. I think Lafferty offers us that physical presence now, and Holt could get in the way a bit. But if we hadn''t of signed Lafferty I''d have been tempted, we have missed having a big man, and although he had a bad season last year, I still think he could have done a job for us at times. At Wigan Coyle played him as a lone striker, like Hughton did, and then he got injured.  Had a couple of good games for Villa. I''d expect him to be playing for Carlisle within 18 months though, probably after Whelan pays him off, can''t see anybody taking him off Wigan''s hands.
  2. Why Morty? Just think he is past his best? If we didn''t have Lafferty now, would your answer have been different?
  3. I think Russell Martin is perfectly good enough to be our right back in the Championship. Likewise, he is good enough to play centre back in this league. Definitely not a Premier League centre back though, and going on last season not a Premier League right back either.
  4. On the cheap? He has been left training on his own whilst his team mates are overseas on their training camp. They won''t find anybody willing to take his contract over so they will probably be forced to loan him out again. Would you have Holt here if we only had to pay say £5000 a week?Or do we now have our new Holt at the club, Kyle Lafferty?
  5. People assuming that he left entirely on his own accord, if the Magaluf thread was true then it is entirely possible that McNally and Adams have realised that he is a doddery old liability and our version of Joe Kinnear and the parties agreed on giving him a dignified exit, where a respected man can save a bit of face, and they can get him out of the club before he leaks something else into the public domain.
  6. If you are playing a game of poker you don''t tell the other players that you have been dealt a bad hand. So far we have signed more players than we have sold.Of course it is likely that we need to lose a few players, like every relegated team, even QPR and Newcastle had to lose a few high earners. Probably also likely that Adams is waiting for one or two to leave before he can bring one or two in. What would we possibly have go gain by announcing to the world that we need to sell? It would only mean vultures circling and players leaving for less money, which could mean more having to leave. Obviously never worked in a sales job or had to negotiate with anybody?
  7. Yes GJP, a few others have been terrible too. Such as Pilkington, who is also a player with talent who didn''t look bothered. Also with plenty of ability, but without the application and with a poor attitude. If there are any players who are disruptive who don''t want to integrate with the squad and pull together for the greater cause of getting us back in the league above, following the relegation that they played a part in, then we shouldn''t want them here. That is the point that most of us are making, including you. Your very first post on this thread was this.... Clearly doesn''t want to be here anymore. A much more accomplished centreback than the man who appears to replace him but if his heart isn''t in it then best for everyone if he moves on. And despite me and others saying almost exactly the same thing you want to argue with us. Not once have I questioned his ability, I''ve been saying exactly the same thing as you said above in bold. You are picking little snippets that you don''t agree with, and ignoring the majority of the other sentences, which are actually in full agreement with you?I''d be more than happy if Pilkington and Bassong left the club, to be replaced with people who may have a little less natural talent but who have twice the desire, work rate and ambition. Grant Holt was hardly Marco Van Basten. If we are going on ability alone then David Fox would be one of our star player, just so happens that he and the club thought it was best for a change instead.
  8. He was fantastic in his first season, and terrible last season. I don''t have any doubts about his ability, but I have huge doubts about his attitude and willingness to commit himself to the cause. For that reason I think we would be better off with Turner, Bennett and somebody new. How many strikers can you name from the last 15 years who were capable of scoring the goal that Marc Libbra did on his debut against Man City in 2001? Not many. But you still wouldn''t have got rid of Iwan Roberts to keep him, who was consistent and reliable and produced the goods week in week out and was the right player for us.Marc Libbra was at Marseille when they won the Champions League in 1993, playing 130 times for them, and played alongside Desailly, Deschamps, and Voller. He possibly even obtained a Champions League winners medal.  We haven''t had as many gifted players, but we have had many more effective ones, and that is the issue with Bassong staying here if his head isn''t right and his heart isn''t in it.
  9. Hasn''t anybody told you GJP? We aren''t in the Premier League.
  10. Well we have certainly more reliable and consistent centre backs. He may be able to play his way out of defense but sometimes you just need your defenders to get all the simple things right - like Turner. I won''t be sad to see him go, thinks he is better than he is and can be a complete liability. I would be more than happy to see Turner and Bennett at the back, although we do need another cb to come in.Really just not fond of the man. A petulant clown who thinks he is too big for the championship, but has been relegated three times from the league above. If given the choice between Turner or Bassong I would choose Turner every time. He does divide opinion though, as this thread shows.
  11. Bassong has always had a bad attitude. He fell out with his Newcastle teammates after their relegation, and then refused to travel to a friendly in the pre-season at Dundee for which he was fined two weeks wages. This forced Newcastle''s hand and they sold him. So no surprise that he is doing similar here by making himself an outcast because he wants to force a deal. He is obviously looking for another signing on fee. The problem we have is that his stock was high when Newcastle went down, and as he was young he was considered a prospect and patchy form and mistakes are overlooked. Now he is 28, should really be at the top of his game but had a terrible season, and other managers will just see a player who has been relegated three times who has forced through his last two moves and is probably doing it again. I can''t believe Hughton ever considered him captain material. It''s a shame that Hughton didn''t get the West Brom job, because then he could have taken his captain with him.
  12. Elmander is a victim of Hughton''s tactics and a loss of confidence just like Hooper and RVW. He looked good for the last quarter of the season, and was actually pretty effective throughout the season when played behind another striker. What he wasn''t was a lone striker. Probably the right decision to move on, but he outperformed our £8.5m record signing last season, and Hooper only showed his class playing alongside him. He at least deserves that acknowledgement.
  13. Is being linked with a move back to Middlesbrough, where he finally found his shooting boots again on loan last season. Was thinking about popping on here and suggesting him as a possible bargain, as we all know he can score a lot of goals in this league. But before I pressed post I thought better and so had a look into what their fans thought of him. This was my favourite: "I''d rather sign a cone, put it in the center circle and call it trevor" And trust me, that wasn''t the only funny one. So no Rhodes should lead to Graham.
  14. Gilks - Bunn Reid - Whittaker Sordell - Jackson If Gilks is 2nd to Heaton, Reid 2nd to Trippier, Sordell 4th choice striker, then they are no weaker as squad members than ours in first season under Hughton. Interesting to see that all signings have been British or Irish, they came up with a squad which was almost completely British and Irish. Lambert did exactly the same, came up with British and Irish players, and then bought the same when he came up. He avoided the divisions which can occur between British players and foreign players. Overseas players are forever moaning about the football culture over here, players having a drink on a Saturday night. Definitely much more Lambert than Worthington.
  15. If I could choose one player to be shot of it would be Bassong.
  16. The club should have published the report really, can''t see what harm it would have done. It was £30m to increase the capacity to 35000, was that for the City stand + the two infills? If we made a large city stand the snakepit and the other corner would then be able to be enlarged, or was some of that 8000 increase in other parts of the ground? I''m surprised really that we didn''t ever consider rebuilding the N&P because before those flats appeared there was probably the ability to build a much deeper stand. That would probably have been cheaper than rebuilding the city stand if the problem is the road access.
  17. Not sure what your point is really STAN. Are you saying that we should have kept those players? McNamee is available on a free after being released by Woking, he''s about three stone overweight but he played a very minor role in our promotion 3 years ago so we should sign him up?
  18. They were a bunch of average individuals who formed a great team, under a great leader. Palace and Burnley didn''t spend much on assembling their promotion teams either. Then you have Leicester who were spending big money on big name players for five years before they finally got promoted. The lesson to be learnt here is that spending big money on players is not a guarentee of success, as we already know from last summer when we bought Fer, Redmond, Hooper, and Van Wolfswinkel, and then got relegated. We just have to hope that Adams knows how to build and manage a team. Most managers, and most fans even, can pick a good player - Hughton could pick a good player, but he struggled to build a team. Even Roeder had a good eye for a player. We have to hope that Adams can build a new Norwich family.
  19. I''d say that the "unknown factor" is whether the £30m figure includes estimated borrowing costs, or whether that is the amount that we would need to borrow. This is a thread which would have been best left in 2012 though, stadium expansion now seems more unlikely than it has for four or five years, we''d have to get back into the prem sharpish to have any hope of this happening.
  20. Aaron Wilbraham signed for a League One club 4 days ago.
  21. Yes, people could choose whether they wanted the Coventry cover or the Norwich one. Here is the Coventry one: http://www.ccfpa.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Hucks.jpg
  22. Much more likely proof that Wilson was concerned about the number of strikers on our books. How do we even know that our offer was accepted? Two Bournemouth players have moved in the other direction to Coventry, sounds like quite a complicated deal and we don''t even know whether we were in the mix. Paper talk linking us to Wilson isn''t proof of anything. Freddie Starr didn''t really eat a hamster.
  23. Philip J Fry, he was a winger before posh signed him. Perhaps he would be wasted on the wing, but Bellamy started as a striker, so did Huckerby, Henry was a winger converted to a striker. we turned McVeigh into a wide player. A fast attacking player is just that, whether they play wide or through the middle. But if not Assombalonga then why not Bakary Sako? The point is that if we can sign a good left winger then we can play Redmond on the right. I know that many are hoping that Pilkington can sort himself out, unfortunately I can''t think of many injury prone players who have lost their pace and somehow regained it - has done nothing much at all for 18 months now and doesn''t look the player that he once was. A pacy natural left footer is needed in our squad and Norwich fans of all people having seen Huckerby, Eadie, and Bellamy in the yellow and green you would think should agree. For me personally if it means moving a pacy left footed 20 goal striker out wide then what is the issue? Some are saying that Adams is planning a three man attack, with two wide strikers, who would currently be the left sided one and what would be wrong with that player being Assombalonga?
  24. Average championship wage was £4059 a week in 2011, doubt it has increased by 150% in three years, unless a few very wealthy clubs have pushed up the average.
  25. Newton, how do we know that Holt''s last contract was over £30k per week? I agree with your point, our turnover has halved and therefore the club need to cut their cloth. But that sounds a bit on the high side and never heard that before.
