  1. Slightly worrying the South African variant has possibly ( I repeat possibly ) taken a hold in Wandsworth. The scientist on radio 4 had this to say if the South Africa variant has really taken off - and we will know in the next two to three weeks - then the rest of reopening might have to be paused, he adds.
  2. That’s an interesting article re trying to get manufacture into Africa. You maybe aware as the US would not let Pfizer and Moderna sign deals for manufacture with India, those plants will now be used to manufacture Sputnik after a deal was signed with Russia. They aim to produce 1/2 billion doses, with Russia’s aim to vaccinate 10% of the world population. Gordon Brown is repeating what Johnson said in June where he stated any country doing below 50’s would be immoral until done throughout the world and saying the same as Brown, so I certainly can’t see that happening. I think there will be words of intent to make it look like that’s happening, but it won’t happen until after all citizens of the 7 are vaccinated. Only time will tell if the vaccine nationalism will have an effect on the world or not. If there is a positive, I think there is more vaccine being manufactured than anyone thought possible, and because of this the US, U.K. EU China ect will be vaccinated far quicker than it seemed likely in December.
  3. @sonyc Well I can give you some good news globally U.K. and treatment. Today will see the world passing the 800 million doses ( of course they lag a day so we were there yesterday ). Despite Moy telling us of U.K. shortages you will see as I said that from the 9/4 we begin to pick back up again. Today sees the over 45’s being called forward, great for us U.K. citizens. To break another Moy myth the EU vaccinated close on 2.5 million yesterday, so their programme is now well back on track and sees the launch of the single dose Johnson and Johnson on the 19/4. Another potential treatment has been discovered that is currently being trialled as prevention. An antibody cocktail developed by Regeneron offered strong protection against Covid-19 when given to people living with someone infected with the coronavirus, according to clinical trial results. I will finish on a negative unfortunately with Fauci advising it is highly unlikely the US will ever use the Oxford vaccine. They have a huge stockpile, let’s hope it gets used rather than dumped.
  4. What’s the point of telling lies to make some kind point to get people hating people. What you said is a lie ie you actually know it’s not true but state it as fact. Think of all the money we have paid the EU so t**** like Farage can get a pension for the rest of their life, why not give it to Covax ?
  5. That was news for 2 weeks ago, they are now vaccinating huge numbers daily even Johnson has stopped mentioning that one.
  6. Complete and utter load of s****. Wether they had it right or wrong what you have said there is simply not true. Bit like the £350 million a week to the NHS and there will never be a NI border. Maybe Farage should consider giving his monthly EU pension to Covax instead of ripping off people.
  7. Here’s some good news I reported a few weeks ago about why it was thought asthma sufferers were not getting as bad as they maybe should have. The drug they use has now gone through Oxford tests. Asthma drug 'could shorten recovery time' in the community A widely available inhaled asthma drug could shorten Covid recovery time for people who are not admitted to hospital, a new study suggests. Researchers say the discovery is a "significant milestone" and the drug, budesonide, is effective as a treatment at home and during the early stages of the illness. Early treatment with the drugs shortens recovery time by an average of three days for Covid patients who are at higher risk of more severe illness and are being treated in the community, according to the research. Budesonide was added to the Oxford University's Platform Randomised Trial of Interventions against Covid-19 in Older People (Principle) trial in November last year. Experts suggest medical practitioners around the world may wish to consider the results of the study, which is yet to be peer reviewed, when making treatment decisions.
  8. Apple and google have blocked the venue check in scan by the looks of it. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-56713017
  9. Maybe the Brits don’t want the jobs after all, with unemployment as it is you would think there would not be a problem. The world’s largest daffodil grower is having to let hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of flowers rot following Brexit. Varfell Farms, at Long Rock, Penzance, produces 500 million stems a year and needs 700 workers to pick them. However, since Covid and the end of free movement following Brexit, the business only has around 400 flower pickers as many of its workers have previously come from EU countries. The business’ owner Alex Newey told Radio 4’s The World This Weekend that it has to let daffodils rot in the fields as a result. “We can’t harvest them, we don’t have enough pickers to pick them. We’re losing hundreds of thousands of pounds,” he said.
  10. Thanks for that, that will be good news, however I wonder why we signed up to a deal originally that we either did not understand, or deliberately shafted NI.
  11. India reach the land mark of 100 million doses given, Europe a week tomorrow will follow America with large quantities of Johnson and Johnson being used, which is as you will be aware a one dose vaccination. To show how quick things are moving now after a few days of reporting 700 million reached throughout the world we should crash through 800 million tonight. Fact of the day - India’s version of vaccine scarcity - they have 40 million in ‘ reserve ‘.
  12. 44 million doses given yesterday, our friends or enemies for some in the EU were a few thousand short of 2 million, so should crack it tomorrow. And a stat for you, the wealthiest 27 countries in the world have 39.3 % of the vaccinations, but 11.1 % of the worlds population. Another big one is with the help of Johnson and Johnson the US now has 68.2 million fully vaccinated. The current average number of jabs given each day has now risen to 17.1 million, and obviously increasing every day.
  13. We hadn’t when you lied about it, and the government are lying about it being contractual as Australian AZ is made in Sydney and their imports are from India. In addition you said Europe were low life’s for restricting AZ to over 50’s yet Australia yesterday did exactly the same, therefore we exported the vaccine to in your words low life’s.
  14. I have an update for you @sonyc Germany has said all under 60’s given AZ as dose 1 will have a different vaccine as dose 2. France, Finland and Norway are likely to follow suit.
  15. Me to, however unfortunately we know from the COS thread the US launched their first attack on AZ in October/ November, after the Brazil incident. Had AZ been the only COVID vaccine this would not be seen as any sort of problem. As it is it is not the only vaccine and as much as I support Oxford 100% if I was a young girl offered a choice Pfizer or AZ I wager not many would pick AZ. Other countries may not be as forgiving of “ a rare event “ as we are due to choice. Good news however is we are nearly done and AZ is not as vital as it was in December in the U.K.
  16. Talking of lies you told us that EU were making up stories about AZ and clots. You described them as low life’s for doing what we are now doing. Oh well.
  17. Hi YF I maybe wrong and happy to be corrected but my understanding is that plenty of Sputnik has been administered throughout the world, including countries that have reported the AZ problem. JandJ will have huge usage in Europe and America before it is available here. Our next one is Novovax. I still think there will be a further link as the current problem is specifically women, young - they just need the next bit of the jigsaw, contraceptive pill, previous clot something that links them.
  18. Are you sure it is from them ?. The second dose vaccine has been stored last 3 weeks and where I help we had a huge Pfizer delivery today for second doses. The slow down in the letter I saw was for 9 days, and I would be shocked if they offer you something else unless they know of trial data not yet released. I will speak to the Walsall lead Tomorrow for you and see if they know of any problems, but I don’t think they will as we have delivery dates next 3 weeks.
  19. Hi Sonyc I always thought they might be but not so certain at the moment. The Oxford Sputnik trials seemed to be going amazingly well, but of course Russia ( as is US ) are launching attacks on AZ. There must be a further link with AZ ie women and the contraceptive pill or something. You would think andenovirus was 1 link, but there are no reports of the clots with others. If the link is found that would be great. Just feel it lucky that this did not happen in the trials, as you will be aware the Brazil event nearly did for it, and there really was no link at all.
  20. Well done, and welcome to the 2 dose club. Hopefully same efficacy after 12 weeks as 3 as the Israel results in the field are nothing short of sensational.
  21. A good job this didn’t happen in the trials it at least got us through our main vaccination programme. See MHRA are now reviewing and the trial in children paused. Such a sad day.
  22. Yes as I advised the delays were only 9 days to first doses not a month as a certain poster was saying. Europe had huge deliveries of it this week, which is good news for the world effort.
  23. From America ( not Europe ). EMA to make statement this afternoon. I suspect it will be a small change in guidance, but depends on sequencing which we know nothing about ie is it all young women on contraceptive pill, we just do not know. Shifting commentary on AstraZeneca’s vaccine Regulators may soon issue their first formal warnings about AstraZeneca’s vaccine and rare blood clots, threatening to cloud the critical global rollout of a cheap and easy-to-store vaccine, after a top vaccine official at the European Medicines Agency said that there did appear to be a link. The agency said it would meet this week to consider updating its guidance, but it has not formally changed its formal advice, issued last week, that the benefits of the AstraZeneca vaccine outweigh the risks. By the numbers: The clots are, by all accounts, exceptionally uncommon, with 44 cases of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, 14 of them fatal, among 9.2 million people who received the vaccine — equivalent to a risk for one in every 100,000 people under 60 given the vaccine.
  24. In some bad breaking news it is being reported that the head of vaccines in the EMA is reported as saying there is definitely a blood clot link with the AZ vaccine. Please do not shoot the messenger and please Moy do not accuse me of anti vaxing as the BBC have it as breaking news headlines. It is being reported around the world. Of course what he hasn’t said is the risk factor and I would think the EMA approval will not change as Countries would have already been pulling it. https://www.dailysabah.com/world/europe/ema-official-links-astrazeneca-vaccine-and-blood-clots
