Defenders, we need defenders!
InLambertWeTrust! replied to Jak G's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City

Unless I''ve missed something this board all seems pretty occupied with our offensive line, which is well and good and I must admit I am more then satisfied with our signings, I can help but think we really should be investing heavily in the defense. It''s all well and good scoring goals but if you can''t defend then your going to concede goals against the most clinical strikers in the world (Blackpool a pefect example of this). If we have a look especially at the CB''s we have it doesn''t make for good reading. Elliot Ward and Barnett both have minor prem experience and were discarded by West Ham and West Brom. I especially worry about Barnett and his lack of pace and can see him struggling. Behind them who do we have Whitbread with no prem experience and with less then a full season of games in the yellow and green shirt. I do feel we should be looking at bringing in two CB''s maybe they don''t both have to be big money prem signing but atleast one should be around the level of a Dann or Roger Johnson or an Upson? Fans need to get over this fear of signing big name signings because their not ''hungry''. Inevitably it''s going to be experience and natural talent that keep us up not hunger.
Try telling that to Tony Pulis.
Says the person who doesnt think Steve Morison isnt good enough! -
2 down, 5 to go?
Snodgrass wont happen. Lambert wont pay over the odds. Not £5m.
To be honest I would have agreed with that post but now that we''ve persisted with Morison and E. Bennett by all accounts and have been successful I think that we''ve got more ''staying power''- it''ll happen.... but for just over 4 million if you ask me [:)] -
If Lambert is to be believed (and lets face it we have no reason to distrust him) we were after 7 players at the start of the transfer window. So far we''ve obviously signed 2 strikers - J.V and S.M so that leaves us with 5 more for Lamberts aims to be achieved. What positions do we feel need to be improved? For me: Snodgrass, Bennett, FF, a new right back, a new center half and Bradley Johnson will be on Lamberts wishlist. As an aside do people think that signing Snodgrass will mean we dont go after E.B?OTBC

The signings of James Vaughan and Steve Morison just dont excite me the way the likes of Dean Ashton, Darren Huckerby and Robbie Earnshaw did (obviously we were in the championship when Earnie and Hucks signed but you get the point). It''s not that I dont rate the two players I guess I just dont know much about either of them. They just dont appear to be good premiership standard signings to me- but then again knowing how good a manager and coaching team we''ve got I''ve got every confidence they''ll do well- we only need them to be good against the likes of WBA, Stoke, Wigan etc anyway [:)]Does anybody else feel the same? Oh and dont get me wrong, I''m more than willing to give them a chance and I dont think I''ve judged them much yet- it''s just ''oh Norwich have signed Steve Morison?'' doesnt really excite me.
Maybe because we didn''t know which division is a possible reason as you can''t have a sponsor on the back of the shirt in the premiership like you can in the football league. Maybe didn''t want to sell a load of shirts with AVIVA on the back above the name and have to recall them.
Would someone care to elaborate the reason why?*It''s not that I dont believe the poster just puzzled by this fact* I really want the new shirt.... COME ON CITY, COME ON! [:D]OTBC

Mike Walker , Paul Lambert parallel
InLambertWeTrust! replied to Tim Dawson's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
I think Lambert is way better as a manager than Walker... primarily as the latter inherited a sound squad of young players, whereas Lambert has built from nothing.... with nothing.
Would you like to calculate how much we''ve spent on wages and fees for players like: Ruddy, R. Martin, Crofts, Surman, Holt, Whitbread, Jackson, Hoolahan, Holt, Barnett... I could continue! Making out that Lambert has had nothing to spend and that he didnt have anything to start with anyway is just ridiculous. You ought to be ashamed of yourself Cluckberk, Delia and MWJ deserve a lot of credit for rectifying their mistakes (and thats all they were) and appointing McNasty and thens subsequently Lambert. Your anti Delia rants just serve to make you look incredibly stupid and petty. -
Obviously my ''rubbish cliche'' doesnt apply to every single team... What I look back on is the amount of teams that go up because of a great strikeforce (and yes a solid defence as well) but go down because they cant defend for sh*t. I hope that we improve all areas of the side but was just making the point that defence will be critical next year as some of our defending this year has been abysmal. ON THE BALL CITY

Lambert Best Manager in England!

http://www.footballfancast.com/2011/05/football-blogs/crazy-to-accept-the-west-ham-job-at-this-moment-in-time
Great blog mate [Y] Will definitely keep an eye on it in future [:)] -
With the greatest of respect to Holty and the other forwards I believe the above to be so true.Look at Blackpool (as one example)- they gained promotion playing attacking football but failed to stay up because they simply cannot defend.Instead of looking at attacking players I believe Lambert will invest in our defence.Elliot Ward for example has had some very good moments this season- the late late tackle against Forest springs to mind but he has also had some shockers - Reading at home when he just attempted a half-arsed nudge into Kebe. I think this sums up our defenders -some good games but some bad as well (I''m not blaming them you understand just trying to explore where we need to strengthen) except Russ Martin who has been superb in every game.My defence for next year would be: Tierney Whitbread Barnett Pants man RuddyI wouldnt change things dramatically but I would maybe buy another goal keeper, a new full back and maybe a centre half for back up/first time contention. What say you?ON THE BALL CITY!

Congratulations to them! Massive achievement to reach the football league [:)]

There is a world of difference from wanting us to finish in a position next year and where people expect us to finish.I expect us to finish bottom 6 if I''m honest and maybe 17th. That would suit me down to the ground... where I want us to finish is completely different and unrealistic [;)]What about you? Where do you EXPECT us to finish?
