It wasn't immediate; Smith joined in November 2021; the American visit was in the summer 2022 after changing manager hadn't magically transformed results with the same players on the pitch.

The stated mission at the start of the Webber era was all about growing within the constraints of what organic growth could allow, with no reference to outside money, so Attanassio's involvement is a new departure that implies a recognition that the approach has reached its limits.

The timeline might fit for what you have stated but it has been widely accepted for a number of years that D & M were open to outside investment as long as the investor was the right fit for Norwich

I don't see any evidence Smith is a yes man. On the contrary, I think it's interesting that we seem to have embarked on a major strategic change with a. high roller joining the board from the US with the prospects of the much-needed financial boost that comes with his resources since Smith joined the club. I wouldn't be surprised if it was Smith's input that finally convinced the club that progress would only come with serious outside financial input.

I would be hugely surprised if the board hired Dean Smith as the Head Coach and then immediately reacted when he told them to find outside investment.

Don't you think that the board were already working on that one ?

  3. Amongst all the angst flying around after today's game (and I DO understand why), can we all just take a minute to say that Kenny had a bloody good game today and was very unfortunate not to have a goal to his name.

Disclaimer - I am not his wife/mum/dad or in any other way related to him 😊

I have decided to head off to pastures new and next Friday will be my last day at the publisher formerly known as Archant.

I have been assured that this messageboard will still exist when the sites migrate over to NewsQuest. I just need to decide which fortunate soul on the sports desk will be responsible for moderating the forum.

I'll pop my head on here every now and then as a fan under this profile:

    All the best and OTBC!

Good luck Pete, thanks for your help and your subtle moderation of this board

Indeed, shef, but as I understand it there are potential trigger events that don't necessarily involve Attanasio - for example S&J selling their 53 per cent to me rather than him - and in that case then he would only entitled to 10 per cent of the existing Ordinaries. To be serious, those trigger events do not specify Attanasio as buyer, and indeed refer to other events apart from a takeover.

I think the trigger events are just for his safety, are they not ? It looks like the plan is that he works with D & M for a period and then gains full control of the club. So his purchase of the C shares will provide a cash injection for the club and I guess at that stage he is still vulnerable to D & M selling the majority shareholding to somebody else - who he may not want to work with. So this particular trigger event provides him a safe, non-costly exit from the club.

So S&J keep control, including control over the allocation of new Ordinary shares, by way of their 53 per cent holding. This doesn’t give Attanasio first refusal on buying their shares and if they sell to someone else he cannot stop that.

Agreed, but if they do sell their full shareholding, that becomes a "Trigger Event" which potentially changes everything.

The fact that he is doing well shows he is an excellent prospect and so it means we will get a player back that is right up there in terms of quality, confidence and value - in other words, it's a win win. The fact that he couldn't break through last season then becomes irrelevant.....same as Todd really, it doesn't matter what happened last season as long as you learn from it and come back stronger.

Do Twente not have an option to buy for a pre-agreed price ??

    Anybody know ?

A great OP but unfortunately we now live in a world where a mobile phone is regarded as a sixth finger on the hand. Look when you go on holiday or to the pub where most sit staring at a phone rather than engage in conversation with people around them including the company they went with !.

Posted on a Norfolk forum - that'll go down well in the rest of the country 😉

The Spurs game was on the Sunday and the story appeared on Friday afternoon. Soon after they'd published it Davitt and Southwell did a vlog and said they had been working for days on the story and finally nailed it.

That doesn't look to me as if the story came from an off the record tip from the club. If that had been the basis for the story they would not have had so much trouble firming it up. They could have gone with it, as least with the basic news, since they had the club's confirmation of that, and then spent time on getting more detail.

And since the story broke they appear to have had zero co-operation or extra information from the club. Absolutely none. That doesn't seem to tie in with the club having wanted the story to get out. Especially since the club is not talking to the EDP on anything as far as one can tell, over 90PerCentGate. It would be very odd, given this blackout, that the club would then give the EDP the biggest NCFC story in decades.

And, as it happens, the US side does not seem to be talking either. I don't think this came from an authorised off the record tip from either side.

More likely that someone unauthorised at Carrow Road tipped of the EDP, which is why Davitt said they took days firming it up, or the club's PR department really was so dumb it didn't think questions would be asked about seven men in the directors' box.

Ah, I hadn't tied up that timeline, that makes more sense, although I would still have expected something of a statement from the club on the Monday morning.

In turn, in a negotiation, if the other party feels the club must accept whatever they want or be attacked by its own fans then that gives them carte blanche to push harder with demands that may not be in the club's interest; strikes me as pretty dumb to put that much pressure on the club to simply strike any deal for one negotiation that we know nothing about. Better just to trust them to get on with it and decide between themselves whether the pros of the deal on the table outweigh the cons.

I was just referring to people on here. I don't think a dozen people on the Pink Un message board will have any influence whatsoever on the negotiations.

Mark Y, I can’t answer for Duncan, but I do have reason to believe that the club very much did not want this news to break now. There is also the argument that Ricardo alludes to, which is that If this proposed deal breaks down the club will undoubtedly get the blame from fans, whether deserved or not. So better from the club’s point of view only to  let the news out If  and when the deal was signed.

Well, I guess you do have a reason to believe that or you wouldn't say so.

However, I do feel that it would be naive in the extreme for the club to put all these people on open view in the Directors Box and then think that nobody would link them to investment into the club, particularly given Webber's comments in his interview.

The other possibility, of course, is that the main details of any investment/deal are already agreed ??

Do also agree with Ricardo's comment, will be a field day on here for some if it doesn't go through now.

I have also been led to believe that this is the case.

Well, I genuinely believe that cannot be true. I don't think there is any way that these people would be in the Director's Box and, once identified which they surely would be, they would certainly be linked to a takeover.

Despite what some might think on here, the combined brains of NCFC really are not that stupid.

I know your feelings about Delia and the club @Duncan Edwards, I'm not criticising you.............I quoted you because I just couldn't be bothered to go back and find @PurpleCanary's post 🤣
