chicken 0 Posted December 7, 2013 Because it was a well deployed lower league approach that had come to the end of its prime and effectiveness.I think a large part of why people are so disappointed this season is as a result of the success of last season.Hughton made us hard to beat. Stubborn, but equally as able to win tactically over well disciplined teams.Lamberts campaign was littered with tactical errors and frailties - surrendering width to teams with good and pacey wide players. Trying to play up and in the faces of teams like Arsenal who will pick you apart and expose the space in behind the back four. Our defence was not good enough to absorb oppositions advances to make a good counter attacking side, and we were reasonably direct - especially when without width. This season has offered a stark contrast to last. When Turner and Bassong were monumental and we like rocks for the waves of attacks to break upon. When Tettey and Johnson bullied midfields enough for the likes of Snodgrass and Pilkington etc to have more freedom to be creative.
