Capital Cup - Upon Reflection

Recommended Posts

I realise a few on here are gloomy today, probably driven by a desire to put Paul Lambert in his place and show what a great club he''s left. For those that feel that way I would suggest asking yourself how you would have gone about your selections for last night''s match. Even better, let''s make you a little more objective and ask how you would go about your selections if you were the Swansea manager in today''s Capital Cup match against Middlebrough. You know your team has been performing admirably in the Premiership, particularly in the past half a dozen games before slipping at home against Norwich. Just before that you won 2-0 at Arsenal and you want to go to Spurs on Saturday and put on a similar display. You know Middlesbrough won''t be taking any prisoners today and you don''t want to risk injuries. Will you be sitting key players in today''s match or will you go for it to pursue a trophy? It will be interesting to see what decision Laudrup makes.

Getting back to the Norwich selections in last night''s match, quite honestly, I was surprised Hughton selected some of the players on the pitch. When Holt went down I had a sinking feeling. It was no surprise to see a poster on another thread refer to Bradley Johnson pulling out of a tackle. When do you see Johnson pulling out of a tackle? I would be surprised if Hughton did not tell his troops to exercise caution because, as we all know, going all out for points in the Premiership is so much more important than the semi-finals of the Capital Cup which may be made up of the following:

Aston Villa, Bradford City, Middlesbrough and Leeds.

If you need to console yourself perhaps you can do so by saying Paul Lambert''s team has found its level. Have a good day. [:D]

I really hope that that is the case. To be completely fair to Chris Hughton - if I was in the same scenario on my Football manager season I''d have done the same thing. ;]
