Back to the diamond?

Recommended Posts

I thought when Wheely bin came on and we reverted back to the diamond we looked better yesterday. When we played the diamond at Swansea we went on to rip them to shreds aswell as not letting bolton touch the ball when we played them, so I believe we need to go back to starting with Hoolahan, Surman, Pilkington & Fox in the diamond with Holt and Jackson upfront. It was pointless bringing Hoolahan on when Lambert did yesterday, with just one up top he had no options to play too.

And to add I thought BJ looked a bit of his depth yesterday, and if im honest a little unfit and chubby too! Anyway it was still a fantastic effort from the lads.

I wish people would start calling Wilbraham by his proper name or a friendly nickname.  Continuing to call him by a disparaging name doesn''t help anybody.   He doesn''t deserve it.    As for bringing Hoolahan on, it was surely an attempt to gain more control of the midfield areas and to give a little more depth to our play.   The substitutes did their part and it was only the inevitable onslaught in the last few minutes that did for us in the end.  Great effort, though from us.

Sorry, but I shall always think of him as Wheeliebin & as far as I am concerned it is an affectionate nickname.

I don''t know if you''ve noticed, but people often call their friends by nicknames which are far from flattering. It is one of the joys of the English language that you can insult someone in the politest of terms, & show warmth to others with seeming insults.

I doubt Wilbraham is sensitive or insecure enough to take any notice of a humorous appellation; he''ll just keep on doing his best, which is pretty damn good, as the vast majority of fans recognise - &, even more importantly, Paul Lambert recognises.

Lambert uses the diamond frequently, there is no ''going back to the diamond'' because he has never gone away from it for long, surely you can see he changes his formation and line up for different games?

Balls! I should have said: "the Christmas pudding formation, with Wes as the little sixpence in the middle."

My poin is that we need to start with the diamond rather then resort to it half way through a game.

I cant remeber the last league game we started with the diamond, was it Bolton?

Thats only two league games ago.

And Lambert clearly used the right tactics away at Swansea.

I''m not sure he''ll go with diamond against Stoke, I think it''ll be a flat 4-4-2, with Holt and Wilbraham or Moro up front, hit them with a bit of their own tactics.

And yesterday we played well with and without the diamond, so while I also think its effective, Lambert obviously knows what he;s doing in terms of changing system for different games, and during games. Will probably be diamond against Wigan at home....
