That whitbread subsitution

Recommended Posts

Surely that was our own creation? Why did our play throw the ball to ruddy in a normal throw out way, if ruddy just wanted a feel of the ball then he should have just kicked it to him. But from my viewing he kicked it straight back resulting in a throw in to Derby.

the ref got that whole phase of play correct. NEVER was a sub indicated. zak just walked over thinking he was about to be subbed, but the ref never indicated to the lino. tierney played the throw in to ruddy, who kicked it back past tierney and into touch. this was then a derby throw and from the throw they won a free kick. the ref did nothing wrong [y]

It is true that the ref didn''t do anything wrong, but it was clear to 26000+ that we were attempting to make a substitution, it was bizarre that he didn''t signal for it, particularly when they did their throw in.

What he did get wrong was the quick free kick that we ballsed up, giving the ball to Derby in what could have turned out to be a dangerous position, only for him to call it back. Savage was, quite understandably, furious. Which made it all the better!
