CDMullins 498 Posted March 19, 2011 Ruddy 8 - Class save from Fryatt early on, another same save at the death.Martin 7 - Should have had a pen, Only got forward late on, his missed tackle lead to the equaliser.Tierney 6 - Like Martin didnt get forward much until late on.Whitbread 8 - Good headed goal, though he was immense, won everything in the air.Ward 7 - Like Whitbread, won everything in the air, couple of sloppy passes put us in trouble early on.Fox 7 - Usual steady performance, good passing, certainally has bulk up and toughen up.Lansbury 8 - Was great today, Won every 50-50, looked our biggest threat. Lots of energy and running.Surman 5 - Very quiet. No suprise to see him taken off.Crofts 7 - Usual self, won alot of ball in the second half, was unlucky with a blocked effort towards the end.Hoolahan 6 - Poor first half, gave the ball away a fair bit aslo offside on 3-4 occasions. Got better in the second and had a very unlucky Messi like run in the dying minutes.Holt 5 - Dissapointed today, not his usual self. was unfairly punished a couple of times, but didnt put himself about as much as normal. Spent more time arguing with the officials than playing football.SubsLappin 7 - Did more in the 30 minutes he was on than Surman did all game, some cracking balls.Jackson - Didnt really get long enough, was unlucky to score with a chance he crated for himself. On the whole a decent point and probably a fair result, although we certainally should have had a penalty. My only critism is, I wish we played how we did after they equalised, for the full 90 minutes. I saw 2 strikers that people have mentioned during the season as transfer targets for us.Mclean - No better than what we have, good outside the box, but no instict andFryatt - Handful, pacy, good touch, direct, real good player. No sure how much he cost Hull, but I wouldnt have minded nicking him from Leicester
Yellow Rider 0 Posted March 20, 2011 Pretty much agree with your summary here CD.We know you''re only a grudging Wes fan so thought you were a tad harsh on him but I can see what you mean. No surprise that we saw much more from him when he was pulled back behind Holt and Lansbury. As you say had we shown the same level of urgency after we had scored as in the last 15-20 mins. then we would have travlled back with three points. We tried to replicate the second half Barnsley performance but there was a world of difference in the quality of opponent + a vociferous backing from the home fans!Re Surman- I know he has had only 5 or 6 games back after the second knee injury but I want to see more, in fact a lot more from him. There is a quality footballer in there for sure and he is ''elegant'' as PL describes him. Thing is he looks like a tidy indoor 5 a side player with comfortable posession, nice cushioned lay offs, neat passing and the occasional quality reverse pass etc. Frankly, thats'' it. I can see (and presumably PL will be working on this) the deficiencies that prompted Wolves to get rid. Namely, he lacks a decent tackle on him, doesn''t get involved enough and can ''disappear'' for long spells. Sorry - that is not good enough and most certainly won''t be if we do go up this season. Whilst Lappin would be rated as inferior by most fans in terms of technical ability, as things stand now, I would keep him ahead of Surman if I had to choose between the two for next season (again, on the scenario that we get promoted). Lappin is hardly ever injured, puts a great shift in and gives natural width. Sure he can''t score for love nor money but he''s a more solid, relaible bet than Surman. CDMullins 498 Posted March 20, 2011 RE - Wes, I think he as been so good this year. His fight for the ball, workrate and engery as been nothing short of outstanding. I think he is a better player in this division than he was last year in League one, even though he doesnt have as many goals or assists. There was never any doubt that some of the talent in his locker is sublime, but he still frustrates me. I still wish he would play the ball abit quicker at times, I still think he is slightly lightweight and still wish he''d have a go with his right foot.Surman - I agree with you 100%, the thing with this City team is there is now room for passengers. He obviously has talent and ability, I think maybe at the moment he is lacking abit of confidence. I cant recall him taling the full back on once or getting one ball into the box. Your right he''d look one hell of a indoor 5-a-side player, real neat and tidy, but get him onto a full size pitch and he isnt contributing enough for me.
