Karl Pilkington 0 Posted November 10, 2004 Much has been said regaring the bad points about the transfer window and how it is hampering the so called smaller clubs in the premier league like the Mighty City.Admitedly we did only have a couple of months to try to construct a team fit for the premier league (Palace had even less due to the playoffs) before the transfer window slammed down on us. So this is obviously not ideal. But if you look at it from another perspective. Neither can anyone else.Everybody knows that there are many clubs in the premier league with far more financial resources than ourselves. Clubs such as Blackburn, Man City, Fulham, Saints, WBA would be more willing than us to wipe out the chairmans cheque book if and when they land on the bones of their arse. If you look out Southampton they have been without Beatie, Philips, Crouchy etc all through injurys. What ever you have to say about Rupert Lowe (and a lot has), I think he would have entered the market to strengthen their squad when they were forced to field a couple of youths. But due to the window they couldn''t. This has obviously helped us.So I think obviously it will be great when the window to the promised land of a "20 a season striker" and a "good central midfielder" opens, we will all rejoyce, sing, and dance (If anything materialises). But will we be so happy when we think that when the same window opens we are competing with Jack Walker, Mohamed Al Fayed, and Rupert Lowes spending power. So in summary I will be happy when the window opens, but also happy when it slams shut at the end of January so the opposition can''t strengthen.Sorry for rambling. I''m normally a man of few words. I thought I would just throw my two penneth worth in the ring.
Normann Canary 0 Posted November 11, 2004 Football has changed... and is always changing...It''s gettin hard enough for teams... butas supporters, when you''re teams not a high flyer... you have to consider so many differnet angles, considerations, statistics... blah... blah ... blah... that sometimes i''s like watching the game, or the game even being played for that matter... seems second in importance... it all becomes about the "results"... I''m not saying it is, but before the games even starts your considering this and that, the financial sitch of this team that team, who''s playing, who''s out, odd''s on, previous results... we''re your going to get something to eat cos your bloody half starving... how much money that player cost, his sats, the guy next to you has a huge bag of chips and you really want him to share them with you!!What I''m trying to geta t is that while the teams compete with eachother, we have to try and match there analytical work pace also... it''s hard work, and draining... for the supporter of a smaller ($) club We don''t have the pleasure all the time of being confident of a win... Ummm, not sure if i related that too well to the original thread...

Karl Pilkington 0 Posted November 12, 2004 I''m well aware that Jack Walker is dead. But he left a fund to support them after he died. So his effect is still being felt.
