Bill Hicks - Jim Fixx & Yul Brynner Routine

Recommended Posts

Anyone familiar with Bill Hicks at all or the "gag" he used to do about Jim Fixx and Yul Brynner?  Jim Fixx was a health nut, always jogging, wrote books about jogging, ate tofu and died from a heart attack after going jogging aged 52. The "joke" was along the lines that he lived the healthy lifestyle but harldy "enjoyed" life whereas Brynner smoked like a chimney, drank like a fish and covorted with woman every night of his life and lived to a similar age. What does this have to do with City, not much you might think but I was watching this on DVD last night and it got me thinking about City.  We find ourselves right now in a situation where the club have no money.  Not like like in previous years where we were told we had no money but then turned in profits, we really have no money.  Surely though our "prudent" spending in previous years was supposed to prevent us from getting into the kind of situation we find ourselves in now?  You see where I am going now..... we are Jim Fixx in the Bill Hicks story but we might just as well of been Yul Brynner and spent money on players when we had it for all the the good our frugal and prundent living have done us.

Agreed.  I`ve often posted that if  "doing a Leeds" is the pithy phrase used to describe how a club can go to pot by being ridiculously extravagent on the pitch, "doing a Norwich" could be used to describe a club which does not understand the inherent dangers in being too "prudent" with on-pitch matters but anything but off it.  Logically our crowds should be down to 17k by now......Can you imagine our financial situation if that were the case?  [:O]
