John 0 Posted October 18, 2008 http://www.bcfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10327~1421525,00.htmlQuote from GJ:"They [Norwich] were going down like flies at times so I don''t knowwhether he''ll get any more loans in to add to the 27 he [GlennRoeder] has got already!"Feels insulting, but it''s hard to feel like i can disagree with the man.I''d say our performance was not necessarily bad, but it''s been like that most of the season, average, and lacking in certain areas. And that is why we are where we are. There''s lack of passion, finishing, and technique, and thats the kind of stuff that gets you wins. We''re just passing around, and we are a little bit too comfortable and sedated on the ball. And what worries me most of all is that Roeder, in all honesty, fails to realise the main sources of our problems. He knows we''re not finishing, but i fear he''s not looking at why, whether the issue may be confidence, concentration, or something as little as wrong footing and such. I just have a picture of him just getting them to practice finishing on the training ground, from 8am to 8pm, unaware that it gets a little bit different when their are 25,000 fans hopes and dreams resting on your shoulders on the big stage. Because their is obviously a problem, and if he was trying to understand and tackle this, it would have been done by this stage of the season.I think the worst thing we can do now is sack Roeder. Despite making some big mistakes, he is at least an average manager in terms of standard in this league (despite having issues, he was effective in the market. Taking away the loans (which i can''t say I''m still happy about now. Not after looking at where we are in the table), bringing players like Bell, Hoolahan, Stefanovic, and Clingan on a permanent basis isn''t easy, and despite some bad performances from some, theres no doubt they are good footballing players), and he''s settled in now, with his staff and players. A change in manager would see payments payed for terminating contracts, and payments made to bring in a new manager, staff and players that reflect his ambitions. We simply can''t accomodate that, not with the minor finances available. It''s a luxuary we lost after appointing Roeder. And look at Leicester, we go into that routine, and it far from brings fortune to the club, it brings instabillity, financial decline, and uproar from major sections of the fans.So in conclusion Roeder must stay at the club, but he must urgently adress his man management skills if he hopes to ''cure'' the issues effecting the players right now, because they are clearly not being adressed at the moment, and it''s reflecting heavily on our position in the league. Yellowbeagle 0 Posted October 18, 2008 I''d have to agree with you on most of the points you raise. What worries me is that Roeder probably can not address his man management skills as they are part of his fundamental character, he does seem to have a history of losing the dressing room at clubs he has managed. I agree that we cant keep sacking managers and backgound teams and probably couldnt afford to even if we want to., but there is this horrible inevitabilty about Norwich''s results at the momment and the buck does stop with him.I am not sure about how affective the permanent signings have been i agree Clingan looks good especially as he was free, Bell hasnt played enough for us all to know yet, Hoolahan is out of favour worringly seeing as he''s Hucks replacement, Stefanovic is a good player but he''s in his 30''s and we''ve not been told how much we paid for him. Looking back over Roeders career so far there are not to many instances of him spending money very well and i worry that all the loan players is a way to hide that fact.He probably is an average manager as you say, unfortunately due to our circumstances we need an excellent manager but these are unlikely you want to come to our club. Still John interesting post and point of view.
Syteanric 1 Posted October 18, 2008 agreed John.. we wont get Promotion at all under Roeder.. anyone can see that.. even the most die hard Roeder fan... However, he does possess the ability to keep us in the division and with sufficient backing could do it....a new owner (be it Cullum or someone else) and i would agree perhpas with getting rid of Roeder.. we would need a manager to take us to the next level (Playoffs at the very least) which i dont think he is capable of doing. jas :)
