Ameobi............bov.

Recommended Posts

Hello all.

I was originally a supporter of the ''get Ameobi in'' thesis, I felt that he was a big premiership striker who would have the capability to fire us into the Premiership (in the long term future, of course). However, I do have a couple of wannabe Geordie mates who do not seem to rate the guy at all. Clumsy. Injury prone. Pre maddona. Couldn''t tell his arse from his elbow. I also researched that his injury record has made his squad avalability very inconsistent.

When we bring in a striker, I want the striker to be;

 a. Regularly fit. If we bring in Shola Ameobi and he picks up an injury due to the physicality of the league, or if his hamstring flares up again, then we are in exactly the same position as we are now. We need to build an attack (as I don''t rate Cureton and Lupoli and Koroma, I can''t see being regular scorers), I would desire Ameobi if we were ADDING to our attack

 b. To be a servant of the club. For seven years, Shola has sat on the bench at Newcastle collecting his money. One has to question his ambition and attitude as a professional footballer if he is just happy to sit out for most of his career on the bench.

So let the Scum have ''im. I''d rather someone with a bit more balls in all honesty.

You know what, I agree.  But we need to show our ambition and position in this league by spending a couple of million on a name.You dont have to invade a soverign state to show your intent with the big boys, just buy a name.

Exactly JC. Spending a bit of money on a big(gish) name striker will demonstrate a bit of ambition to us fans regardless of how great he actually turns out to be. Spending peanuts on Howard or Bishop, who may score just as many goals as Ameobi, will show all that we are a bargain-basement club who are destined to finish mid to lower table once again. Close the door on your way out Delia!

But if we signed Ameobi for big name money, and he turned out rubbish, all the board haters will just criticize them for bringing him in and wasting our money, they can''t win!

Not from me.  Anyone with sense will see a big signing as a signal of intent.  If it fails, well at least we tried to think a bit bigger.  When away fans used to come th carrow road it was nice to see their faces when our team sheet was read out - it was like, crikey a great ground, full and a couple of names that I know are GOOD.We could read our first 11 out to the away fans all season and get hoots of ''who'' in return with justification.If our policy of massive loans and buying purely players from lower leagues works this season then we will be the miralce model that defies all previous models.  Other clubs will start spending peanuts, only buying a couple of players from league one and padding out with loans and not worrying about a decent striker, because we proved that we can succeed doing it that way.How likely is that to be the reality?[quote user="ellis206"]But if we signed Ameobi for big name money, and he turned out rubbish, all the board haters will just criticize them for bringing him in and wasting our money, they can''t win!
