Delias Tasty Nibblets 0 Posted August 13, 2008 Firstly id just like to say im happy with the signings so far, but we have''nt spent much at all, therefore we should have money spare to buy a top quality championship striker...and I dont want to start a PC debate but...Its actually really beginning to take the p*ss, 25,000 every week, guaranteed income with 20,000 season ticket holders, cut wage bill (Hucks, Dion) and our top fee payed is 400k this summer, ''out of the boards pockets'', when you see the fees payed by Burnley and other clubs of that size, we really should be able to compete....im all for getting players cheap as possible, but it should be £2M players for £1.5M, not cheapos, especially when it comes to the strikeforce.I just hope that were pleasently suprised by the striker we sign, id be happy with Iverson, but he''d probably cost around 700k? Even then I have to ask where is the money going?! I think we all expected at least one £1M+ player to be signed this summer, to excite the fans. We saved money on Hoolahoop, who was a bargain and probably worth more, but there should be more to spend.Frustration.
Evil Monkey 52 Posted August 13, 2008 I think frustration is the best word to use... We''ve all been waitingfor the "big money" signing all summer and the fact is the season hasnow begun and we''re no closer to it. There''s been plenty of postson here since the game ended last night with various reasons why, mostof which are entirely predictable, and I''ve yet to see one which offersa realistic attempt at pinpointing the problem. Is it the boardnot putting up the cash? Is it Roeder dallying or putting his eggs inone shrinking basket? Is it the selling club that''s the problem? Whoknows the facts at this moment in time? None of us, I''d say...Roeder has said before, however, that it would be very easy for him tobring in a poor player, or even an average one, having spent millionson them. He could do it every day of the week, but it wouldn''tsolve our problems. It seems to me that Roeder has a very narrowlist of players he feels could make the difference and is sticking toit, and fair play to him I say. There''s still 18 days of thetransfer window left and whilst we would all like to be getting off toa good start, I have to question how important this period is.Winning breeds confidence, naturally, and after last season its a habitwe need to get back into. But we''re only one league game into theseason, and one league cup game out - is it really time to hit thepanic button as so many seem to be doing? I suspect not. There''sno such thing as precedent in football, each game and each seasoncarries its own merits, however my thoughts keep turning to the lasttime we were in this situation - a decent squad but lacking thatincisive striker; knocked out of the league cup after playing two youngand similar strikers. Sound familiar to anyone? All I''m saying is, have a little bit more patience and a little morefaith in Roeder. Does he know we need a striker? Yes, he''s saidso himself many times and has deals in the pipeline, albeit stallingones. Does he know this needs to be sorted sooner rather thanlater? Yes, he''s also said this himself. But Rome wasn''t built ina day... He may yet surprise some of you...

KeelansGlove 0 Posted August 13, 2008 As i have said elsewhere I have no problem with Roeder wanting to get the quality striker in my real problem is the fact that he said he wants competition for every place and clearly this means we are two players short both in the same position. If we had signed an 18 year old target man on loan and had to play him because mr x had not arrived fair enough but we haven''t i believe the phrase is "spoiling the ship for a hapeth of tar"hopefully people will stop whinging about the idea of playing two midgets up front at least
The Butler 0 Posted August 13, 2008 Don''t use Rome as an example. They went into decline and got beat badly at home by a lower league oufit (Visigoths)!Just how long do you give them EM?I have watched the posts say, June,July, by the start of the season, by end August,by Christmas. What is the time scale?Do we wait until it''s to late? Look how close we got to disaster by waiting last season. Give them time yes, but start increasing the pressure NOW. Evil Monkey 52 Posted August 13, 2008 How long do I give what, Butler? The team? Overall, I''m of the opinionthat this season is a consolidation exercise and we should be pushingfor 12th or above, with the following season being the key to regainingPremiership status. Is that long enough or too long? For who? How do we increase the pressure whilst giving them time?Did I miss something?

While 24000 turn up regardless each home game, 2000+ heading for away games regardless. Do you think that the board in general really gives a hoot.Unfortunately the only way a fan can have infuence is by withholding what is needed the most, his money(personal support) and that is what being a fan, no one wants to do.I certainly hope your consolidation this season and a push next are accurate. My worry is that the decline is gathering to much pace and I for one can''t see who is going to stop it.
Houston Canary 0 Posted August 13, 2008 It''s 2 pence, no 2 cents, you don''t want to give Houston Canary "the horn" - MartyI''ve never heard anyone from anywhere refer to it as their "2 pence". Funny, thought, that YOU automotically think of American currency when you see the word "cents". Don''t you know there are plenty of other countries that use dollars and cents? Is it not possible one of them came up with the expression of offering "my 2 cents" when voicing an opinion? I know it''s not likely, but it is possible. Not everything popular comes from the US. I admire your attempt to show nationalistic pride, but this particular example of it is silly. Not worth tuppence.
