Guest Posted July 4, 2008 I also made it 70.68 x 5 = 340340 - (71 + 60) = 209209 / 3 = 69.6666 (or 70 near enough)

Coelho 0 Posted July 4, 2008
Cheers for the help guys, although I am still slightly confused by how you work it out?
20% is one-fifth of the total mark. One-fifth is decided by each of the essays, and three-fifths by the exam. Therefore you multiply the total mark (68) by five, giving 340. Then subtract the marks from the essays, which each account for one-fifth, and you are left with 209, the total for the other three-fifths of the overall mark. Divide that total by three, and you have the average amount of the other 60% of the total.

CaptnCanary 0 Posted July 4, 2008
71x0.2 + 60x0.2 + 70x0.6 = 68.2%
I''ll explain a bit better for you. You know this > 71*0.2 + 60*0.2 + X*0.6 = 68%So rearrange the equation to 68 - 71*0.2 - 60*0.2 = X*0.6Divide both sides by 0.6 to get X = (68 - 71*0.2 - 60*0.2)/0.6Therefore X = 69.666But you would have been given a round number mark for your exam making it 70% and your actual module mark was 68.2% but is rounded to 68%
