......and Smith must score. 1,596 Posted March 23, 2007
http://money.uk.msn.com/Banking/getsaving/article.aspx?cp-documentid=4345942 interesting reading... does anyone here have a canary account? after reading that article are u getting value for money?jas :)
Yes Jas, I''ve got one and the interest rate is rubbish ! The interest rate is so low because Norwich & Peterborough '' out of the goodness of their hearts '' contribute a tiny percentage of their profits on the '' Canary '' account to the coffers at Carrow Road. In doing this they try to make us believe that they are kindly souls with only the best interests of the football club at heart but it is really only a clever marketing trick based on supporters loyalty to the team they love. But there is a far better way if people want to help NCFC more than the misers at Norwich & Peterborough. Why not open another account elsewhere, at say, 5% interest, and donate a percentage of the extra money earned yourself either by spending more at Carrow Road on matchdays or, every so often, donating a cash sum? That way both supporter and football club benefit more than they do under the affinity scheme.Of course Norwich & Peterborough, along with all financial institutions, can get away with this because they know that most people don''t bother to explore other options. Consequently NCFC have, very handily, benefitted to the tune of several hundreds of thousands of pounds which is in effect '' money for nothing '' other than the link up with Norwich & Peterborough. But as explained above and with a little effort by us supporters, that sum could be so much more. The real losers are supporters of NCFC with '' Canary '' accounts .......Surely the main attraction in opening an account is so you get a 2% discount - or 5% in the River End ( sorry Norwich & Peterborough ) - when you renew your season ticket ? Providing you don''t leave too much money sloshing about in a '' Canary '' account earning a pittance - and assuming you can survive the stress of watching the Canaries week in week out - then it is an attractive proposition.Interestingly, apart from the identical '' Posh '' account, obviously linked with Peterborough United, the Norwich & Peterborough Building Society run similar tie-ups with at least a dozen other Football League clubs. Now I''m no mathematician, but, as Arthur Daley would say, " It''s a nice little earner "........... Now, I''m no mathematician
