Derby Day Early Kick Off's

Recommended Posts

I am not sure if this post has been bought up before, but I thought I would do one.

Personally i am fed up to the back teeth of the early Sunday kick off''s against Ipswich.  The argument is there that due to crowd trouble on other occasions the police have advised that they have had to due this for better control of the fans and no drinking before the games.

Are we the only derby match that does this now early on a Sunday?  Does our fixture pose a greater risk than any other?

The atmosphere has got worse at the games in the last few years and Ipswich couldnt even sell there full allocation of home tickets.  The last time we played Ipswich away on a Saturday was over 10 years ago.  We lost 2-1 and I think Lee Power got sent off.

The evening games for me against Ipswich are a must, you cant beat the atmosphere and I think you would have a sell out every game.

What would happen if we drew Ipswich in a cup match and it went to a reply, would this have to played on a sunday.  Or even if we got to a play off final, would this warrant a midday kick off.

Thoughts please

First thought .... so THIS is why we were so pathetic on Sunday  !   after clubbing  into the small hours Saturday night  , we REALLY expected the team to crawl out their pits  early Sunday morning ?

Second thought ,  since when did murdoch  ever give a sh*t   about football fans ?

I agree with kneeelo 74 ......... early KO''s are a real pain.

Not that many years ago we used to play Ipswich at 3.00pm on Boxing Day with the return game at the same time on Easter Monday. That was in the days when football violence was far greater than it is today but the idea of an early morning KO would have been dismissed without a second thought.

True, now that football is at the beck and call of the TV companies, they dictate the times and the problem with Sunday games is that three live matches have to be fitted into the schedules. But surely 11.30 is a bit early on a Sunday ? Everyone''s half asleep and/or hungover, having got up at silly o''clock, so it''s not surprising that the atmosphere is muted. The police line is that it stops fans drinking before the game doesn''t cut much ice with me, for, although strictly true, is rendered meaningless at that time on a Sunday morning. As any supporter partial to a pre-match pint knows, the logistics of getting served in a heaving pub against the clock usually '' stops '' much consumption anyway, but especially for a lunch-time start.

It does seem strange that most London and Manchester derbies seem to kick-off at a reasonable hour, well after the pubs open.Obviously in Scotland they don''t seek advice from the Norfolk/ Suffolk constabulary for I''m amazed that the Old Firm derbies are allowed to take place when half the supporters are '' tanked up ''.

I thought those guys would gladly kill each other when sober ...........
