Salopian 1 Posted November 22, 2006 No supporter wants us to put out a weakened side, but we have to face the possibility/probability of an injury or two before January. This could be an opportunity for other players, especially youngsters. It is difficult to see anyone else being an effective substitute for Ernie, but in most other positions somone could fill in. Perhaps with an average of nearly two games a week, we should rotate the squad a little and rest tired limbs. There are one or two who would make us shudder, - Thorne?, and one or two we would like to see replaced - Robinson, Hughes? One thing is certain, if some of the fringe players are given a run out they would not show less commitment than those who didn''t turn up at Portman Road. Who knows, we may discover that Worthless got it wrong and one or two of the youngsters can play a bit!
Jack Flash 13 Posted November 22, 2006 Fair points made, although I am concerned that the youngsters also are not yet ready evidenced in part by the Reserves performances, where we have a pretty poor record to date - 8 games this Season have yielded 2 wins, 3 draws, 3 losses, 12 goals scored, 15 conceded, and not excatly against top quality opponents. Milton Keynes level with us on points, but played 2 games less; and we''re behind Ipswich, Southend, Luton, Leyton Orient, & Colchester. Not really encouraging. Looks like we need an active January to significantly improve the overall squad
Fat Barman 0 Posted November 22, 2006 Unlike Worthington, PG has been watching reserve games and youth games. I''ll go with his assessment of which youngsters are ready to step up to the first team.
