My perception as a white middle aged etc etc is that UK society, in general, has become more aware of race issues and more integrated.

Of course the UK as a nation isn't racist. But of course many Black and Asian people have been met with racism in the UK. That is a totally different thing. And I wager, in some cases, the racism was not meant but just careless.
