Sing up the river end

People moaning at Hughton

Recommended Posts

Please try to remember the guy had a very limited budget this season. He used it building us a defence, which lets be honest has been pretty good this season. If you have a very limited amount of money to spend build from the back ,cheaper to get better defenders than attackers.
.
He has already shown his intent for next season. The signing of RvW, with the rumours RvW put out himself saying we''re after an attacking midfielder and two wingers. Now the debt is cleared we can start to push on , if we stay up.It''s a risk we had to take to secure the future of our football club.We were that close to admin in the third tier we used any means to carry on.Those debts mostly came to ahead this season.
McNally wouldn''t be here if we weren''t planning on building something strong for the future. So lets all get behind the lads for the rest of the season & help us stumble over that finish line.
I think we will just stay up , but next year I''m very excited that we could have a squad that is much beter equipped next year and push on for a mid table finish

This isn''t a go directly at you.But another thread on exactly the same subject? There must be ten threads that say exactly this that could have been added to.

Presumably, we had to clear the debt because our creditors are inflexible. Perhaps we don''t owe them enough as sides like Liverpool have huge external debt. Its a case of ''owe me a tenner it''s your problem, owe me £10,000 and it''s my problem.

On top of that we lack investors. We must really lack investors because I agree, Hughton''s budget has been small, so small that we have gambled with survival before a huge EPL cash increase and not as a newly promoted side.

For the sake of a nail the shoe was lost, etc, etc.

Are we the only side adopting this debt free strategy? It smacks of small mindedness and a lack of vision and I fear it will cost us dear.

To be honest I don''t tend to read every post on here. I normally read one or two and get bored of the drivel or slating of the club.Sorry if it is a carbon copy of others but just wanted to put my point across

[/quote]Are you serious?!At what point is taking on a load of debt a good idea for a club the size of ours? Yes we maybe able to field a stronger team, but where will that get us? Top 8 at best maybe, but with the masive risk that if it goes tits up and we get relagated then we are looking at bankruptcy. Teams like Man U and Liverpool can afford to take on 300m+ of debt because they have a world-wide fan base, and turnover 4-5 times the amount that Norwich do, coupled with the fact that they are established PL teams with a probablity of relagation approaching 0%. If we were to shell out, say £50-60m this summer, on new players and their wages, the downside far outweighs the potential upside, as our revenues would remain mostly unchanged unless we were to qualifiy for Europe, and even then the Europa leage will not bring much in the way of riches unless we reached the very later stages, which again is unlikely. Our best bet is to gradually improve the squad with a select few addidions, like that of RVW, whilst trying to remain as solvent as possible, so that if a disaster does happen and we do get relaged, we will at least be in a strong position to bounce back up.I realise that we need to have some ambition, and try and become a well established PL team, but getting into lots of debt is not the way to go. Villa did it a few seasons ago, and more recently QPR - and look where thats got them!
