The Grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence

There is a lot for Lambert in particular to think about with regards to his future. His star shines very brightly after back to back promotions but the wrong move could set his career back significantly. Years ago Mike Walker after his European success with Norwich jumped to Everton in the name of ambition. He lasted less then a season and never really recovered. Martin O Neil a wonderful manager arguably had his best years at Leicester a simular sized club to us. True he has big jobs afterwards but did he have true success a monkey could finish in the top 2 in Scotland and his time at Villa saw them top 10 but nothing to show for it and ending unhappily. Hodgeson jumped from Fulham to Liverpool and we all know how that ended.  So too owen Coyle from Burnley to Bolton.Villa would be a bigger move for Lambert but not greatly so. They appear to be a club in slow decline and no bigger than Leeds and the Sheffield clubs and we know what has happened to them. Lambert has a premiership club now with a Board that will support him financially as much as they can which should get better year on year. He is all powerful at the club and supported by fans. It is a big gamble to give all of that up. If it was Newcastle, Liverpool or Spurs i could understand the gamble and him jumping ship but Villa where will that take him with the potential to have a lot of downside and managing in the lower leagues if it all goes pear shaped.

As for Holt we owe him a lot and whilst i would love him to stay  i think he would only have 2 more seasons at best at the top and he cannot be blamed for getting some better finincial security. He could be the difference in us staying up next season though
