Campbell 0 Posted January 17, 2005 Simply put, we do not impose ourselves enough on our opposition, and it''s costing us. It''s clear that ALL teams in this division have their full backs getting well forward...so instead of being the dosile planks that we seem to be and just letting the opposition influence us rather than the other way round, why don''t we play 3 upfront, Huckerby on the left, McKenzie/Jonson on the right, pinning back the fullbacks...Simple! We did it last year, why not do it now? Huckerby plays FAR too deep as it stands, he''s not an asset anymore if he keeps playing there. Compare how we defend to that of established Premiership teams; it is a joke. Only Doherty has any clue of what is expected, and Charlton is competent left back, and Helveg the same on the right...Edworthy isn''t good enough, never will be. Drury is too laid back. Fleming plays too deep because he has no pace. It is no surprise we''ve conceded so many goals, we just invite pressure again and again. When will we learn that if we give quality players time on the ball, they will hurt us...Our defence is far too deep...why on earth do we continually back away from the ball? We must push up, if that means never playing Crag Fleming ever again (he seems to be the main culprit for forcing us deeper) then go for it...it''s costing us. I am extremely annoyed because we are NOT LEARNING anything...It''s 20 odd games in, and we still haven''t got a formation that works for us; we haven''t maximised Huckerby''s ability; we''re defending extremely naively and we do not impose our own game on the opposition. Let''s play 4-3-3...and let''s play it properly! Not a half-hearted 4-5-1 in the hope we can nick something. We might as well go down giving it a go and trying to score goals...4-3-3! Get up the pitch, let''s gamble and play some proper attacking football, you know, the stuff that took us to the league title last season, especially towards the end. We are not in the Premiership for a ride, start playing like you belong
