How many strikers do we need?

Recommended Posts

(I posted on this earlier, but although my name was attached to another post my message was not.)I am concerned at the paucity of our strike force, as well as its quality. Now that Ched Evans will not be returning, we have the following:2 strikers who enjoy GR''s confidence - Cureton and Dion. (I do not include Hux here as he is not an out and out striker, although he did rise to the occasion last season when ernie was injured and scored some vital goals. But his form and mobility this season raise questions s to whether he could do it again.)3 Others who could play at a pinch, but are not highly regarded - Jarvis, Martin, Strihavka. (Possibly others from the Academy?)1 injured - RentonIt would take simultaneous injuries to Curo and Dion for us to be embarrassed. Neither Curo nor Dion are converting chances at a high proportion at the moment, in any case. The conclusion seems inescapable. We need at least two more good strikers, and not teenagers on loan.I am a little puzzled that recent actual and potential (Iliev) acquisitions have been defenders and midfielders. Most of the reports of Norwich interests seem to be of midfielders - perhaps as many as six names. Some could score goals, but we need players to score on a very regular basis to raise our goals scored ratio and improve on our very poor goal difference.I hope that the names of players we are interested in were passing enquiries, perhaps magnified by their managers or agents, unless we have a bigger budget than we imagine. I hope that quietly GR and his team are negotiating over strikers, because I would not fancy our chances of surviving relegation with our present strike force. My feeling is that we need at least two proven strikers(rather than targetmen or other providers) before the window closes.

I agree whole heartedly with what your saying, I think it may be a case of waiting for the right deal to come around.

I believe Roeder is waiting on Newcastle to see what additions they make to their sqaud to see whether Ameobi could be brought in, Newcastle have said that any additions they make in January will be to improve the squad and not to cover for African Nation absintees, so if we see a striker come in, then i would have a sneaking feeling Shola might be coming down here.

I also read that Crewe had made a 300k double bid for Andy Bishop and Stuart Fleetwood, now this hasnt been excepted, but this would seem a fairly decent bit of business on Crewes half, and does go to show there is striking talent out there.

Personally, i still think we are 8 players short, seems a lot but....

lappin,murray,brellier,brown,jarvis,martin,evans,taylor,lewis,gallacher-are all going, gone or should go....and considering our squad depth isnt great even at present, thats a scary thought....
