Not first choice but...........

Recommended Posts

Lets face it how many clubs genuinely get their top target as their new manager? England certainly didn''t and (more importantly) neither did Ipswich with Magilton who trailed in a sorry fourth or fifth choice as they toyed with Newell, Parkinson, Tilson etc. Point is that Magilton now seems to be doing ok (and quite arguably more than just ''ok'' the last time I looked at the league table).

I am no supporter of the board at all and am in the Cluck, Smudger camp as far as The Smiths are concerned but lets try and keep some balance here. Many posters say it''s a ''cheap'' option? No cheaper than Jewell surely as no compensation is due (presumably) in either case.

Why was he not appointed on Day One you say? If he had been all hell would have let loose along the lines of ...''panic appointment'' etc. Almost certainly the club have (this time) tried to aim higher and IMO probably offered the job to Coleman and Jewell only to be knocked back. That being the case they then worked down their list to come up with the highest place applicant / target on that list who WOULD actually take the job.

I am a little underwhelmed with the announcement but it was almost unanimously agreed that we needed an ''experienced'' guy this time so now we have one. He may not be the ideal choice of many fans but as I have said elsewhere on this messsage board today it will be his choice of backroom staff that will be critical. Continue to protest against the board by all means and that campaign needs to be stepped up, BUT we must now get 100%  behind the Essex Boy!

An excellent post YR - I can''t say I am really excited, but want to give the guy a chance and hope he can get us back to playing some good football. First to get us out of the danger zone and then to take us forward.

Whoever was appointed has the same task, getting us safe and getting the board to invest heavily in that task! Not any easy job for anyone.

At least he''s experienced as you say and we can only hope he has some ideas who he wants to bring in. We need a lot of help!
