Hayden 0 Posted March 18, 2004 Anybody else intrigued by Greeno''s reaction when we chant "Greeno for England?" Big Rob is always up for the banter "Greeno whats the score?" etc and even encourages the crowd, but the moment we give it the "England''s No1" he instantly dismisses it and quietens the crowd. I think our Rob is even a genuine shy guy who doesn''t want the attention or he is well peeved as he knows he good do a job, wants it badly and is being overlooked, even in friendlies. If we are in the Prem next year then Greeno has every chance in my opinion to look at the International stage....afterall, looking at how Macks and Flem reacted to a player with pace running at them against the Gills, Rob is going to be a busy lad with Henry and Bellamy etc and of course it could be nothing....... T07 0 Posted March 18, 2004 And it could be he knows that he''s an average keeper. Are you seriously suggesting he''s better than Keelan/Woods?He screws up on the most BASIC schoolboy things SO often. He''s a great shot stopper and his distribution recently has improved. I''m sick of people saying ''he''s young and still learning'' one minute and then bleating he should be playing for England the next. There are better keepers than him in line to that throne - though I agree nobody exceptional. Archie 0 Posted March 18, 2004 T07 please list 4 english keepers who are better than him. i''ll help youRobinson - yesKirkland - how many games has he played in the past two yearsJames - maybe, but prone to howlersMartyn - sorry, how old is he??Walker - you must be jokingGreen will learn from his mistakes.i''m not saying he is the best in england, but to compare him to people like kelan doesnt make sense.in those days there was banks clemence etc also playing, but now there arent really many world class english kepers. that is why there are calls for green to at least get a chance
DumbleDelia is Magic 0 Posted March 19, 2004 TO7- How can I put this? Um.. SHUT UP!! Average keeper?? Don''t be a prat. He''s by far and away the best goalkeeper in the first division. He is unbelivably consistant. His mistakes are very few and far between, unlike some of the other contenders- Walker and James to name a couple. He will be a future England goalkeeper- Trust me. Hayden 0 Posted March 19, 2004 TO7, don''t agree mate. Green is a very good goalkeeper and once on the Premiership stage will be well placed to stake a claim. You have to be in the Premiership to get a chance. Green will be the goalkeeper of one of the 22 best teams in the country. In the Premiership English keepers of the future only number at 2 (Kirkland and Robinson) Now don''t get me wrong, I did not start this post to say he was the best keeper in England, I was merely bemused by his reaction to a good bit of banter chant from the crowd on a subject I expect is very close to his heart. I would imagine that in the future Kirkland and Robinson will be battling it out to be the England No.1 but after that I would say Green is at least up for that third spot if Premiership football is at the Road. Kirkland is injury prone and Robinson was even less unknown as Green is when he started to get acclaim.
Mook 0 Posted March 19, 2004 You know, I think people are believing the hype of a lot of these english keepers. James has the jersey because he hasn''t made any cock-ups recently. But he will. All I ever see of Robinson is two fantastic saves and one HUGE howler per game. Is that really England class?Kirkland looks talented, but then so do I occasionally. And that''s all that Kirkland plays, occasionally.Martyn is out of the picture, Richard Wright (spit) would be my choice, but he''s hardly been playing. That leaves our Bob, who has earned us fifteen points single-handedly (no pun intended) this season. I think he''s deservedly in with a good shout. But then I would play Fleming at Centre-half...
