How many managers would accept our terms ?

Recommended Posts

So an ultimatum has been issued (as much to the players as the manager), and the vague target of 2 games to turn it round, whatever that means, has been set.

Talk has already turned to who should replace Worthington, and let''s be honest, it''s been going on for about a year hasn''t it.

Well, ask yourself this :

How many managers would accept that they should have no control over transfer budget, to manage a team with not enough money to provide quality in depth (in other words, decent players on the bench), but with fans that expect a top 6 finish ?

A million pounds seemed like a lot of money for Steve Howard, aged 30, in the summer.  He''s scored 4 goals in his last 4 games for Derby.  Admittedly him and Earnie could score a goal a game and we''d still struggle to win with the way the defence is playing, but you get my point.

I wouldn''t mind betting that a lot of the "wheeler-dealer" types, your Dave Jones from Cardiff''s, who get what they want and build teams from small budgets, see themselves as entrepreneurs who get involved with the transfers, knock down the prices etc.  They don''t leave negotiation to people who haven''t played.

Someone from the lower leagues might be interested in working under these restrictions, maybe Martin Hunter would be interested in stepping up a level ?  I can''t see anyone with previous proven success on a small budget willing to come here (and we certainly wouldn''t be looking for managers who have to buy success), but if Worthington goes, I hope I''m proven wrong.
