Alex Harvey-Jones 0 Posted September 11, 2006 In my opinion Worthington has got us into a mess in terms of squad size and new signings due to his different approaches to the buying and selling markets. Strangely he seem to think that different rules should apply to Norwich when buying than to the rest of the teams in our league. Now we all know strikers are in short supply and to get a quality striker you need to pay money - often inflated monies. Worthington seems very happy to accept that fact when he is selling one of our players. Now don''t get me wrong I''m delighted about that and lonmg may it continue but of course this approach has a flip side. Worthington said when we were poised to sell Ashton that he would only sell if someone offered silly money. In came West Ham, offered an inflated amount and West Ham got themselves a quality striker who will do well for them for years to come. However when it comes to buying Worthinton is often heard to say things such as we won''t be held to ransom over a striker or we won''t pay over the odds. What he doesn''t seem to ralise is that unless you do that, 99 times out of 100 you won''t end up with a player of any note. Of course no one likes to be ripped off but in my opinion it is far better to pay over the odds and get a quality striker than refuse to pay a quoted amount and end up without any decent players or as is the case with us, any players at all!!If McSheffrey went for £4million and Howard for £1million then McLeod is worth £2million at only 21 and with lots of potential. Eastwood is probably worth £3-£4 million in the current market and unless we are prepared to pay some of these hefty prices like we did before for Ashton and for Earnie we are going to miss out again and again on decent players! I''m sure if we had offered a decent amount for Eastwood - i.e. the sort of amount he is worth in the current market for quality strikers, Southend would have considered selling. However we''re too polite to push it and give them a bid they can''t refuse. Worthington has got to learn that if you ask big money for strikers then you will have to pay big money for strikers. Nigel look at the market and understand that strikers are not overpriced. Price is set on demand. There is a huge demand for quality goalscorers and therefore they are not overpriced.
