Lesson learned? - I doubt it somehow!

Recommended Posts

I would like someone at Carrow Road to come out and admit they miscalculated and got it wrong in terms of the now closed transfer window.

Weeks ago we were told that no one did business at the start of the close season – we watched as our rivals strengthened their squads and we quickly reduced our already threadbare numbers. We were patronised by our chairman and Chief Exec and told  -There there, don’t worry. You don’t understand what goes on in the transfer market, but luckily for you we do. We have been working since the end of last season and new faces (plural) will be added.

Time passed and we arrived at the last day of the window and, while other clubs got their men – we waited and watched in horror as our squad got even smaller.

Mr Doncaster and Mr Munby owe us more than extracts from a headless chicken’s diary. They owe an assurance that they have learned their lesson and in January will conduct their business in a professional and timely fashion – not kidding themselves, and us, that they are playing poker while everyone else is buying and selling players!

During the summer we had:

Plan A: Rob Hulse

Plan B: Steve Howard

Plan C: Look for a Right Winger

To replace Mckenzie we had:

Plan A: 2 Million Pound on TV tuesday night Dave Cotteril.

Plan B: Loans to fill the gaps

Surely you must have more irons in the fire than this with such a small squad.

The fans rightly pointed out that last seasons squad was too small  and the club suffered the consequences when the injuries came and the loan players failed to bridge the gap.

Since the end of the season we have signed just one player and released 5 (Ward, Green, Leon, Charlie & Jarrett) and have gained a parachute payment and not insignificant transfer fees.  Yet last seasons flawed plan to run with (an even thinner) skeleton squad is repeated?  Why oh why havent we learnt?

Its not lack of funds (£2m for a untried teenager?) or lack of available players better than we already have. So is the only conclusion that it must be a concious decision by everyone at the club - from manager to chairman?   I do hope the good start to the season is not squandered by this short sightedness.
