northernlads 0 Posted April 22, 2004 Me and the lad,who I''ve brought up properly I hasten to add, are feeling pretty good at the moment. Like me he remembers with some bitterness shouting our hatred for Robert Chase 9 years ago at Elland Road and it will be neatly ironic if we replace Leeds. Anyway, in savouring the moment I''ve been reflecting on past championship seasons and thinking about how they compare. The ''72 team was based on strong defence and teamwork but not alot of flair. The ''86 team had a number of talented players and went up in similar style to this time, hitting the front at Xmas and staying there. How well does this team compare? How would we do without Huckerby? A second point of comparison. How do the feelings of satisfaction compare? It was pretty good on the pitch at Watford in ''72 after the game but I can''t recall alot of co-ordinated celebration during the game. In ''86 we seemed to calmly coast to the title but this year has been phenomenal. The level of support at Reading was a joy to be part of and we''re really looking forward to Sunderland.
