  1. A number of posters have started reflecting on our good start to the season and whether a tilt at promotion is realistic or even desireable. I''ve seen us 5 times [ Scunthorpe, Blackburn, Swansea, Forest and Doncaster] and we''ve only really played well for the whole game  at Forest. There are some tough games coming up and by the end of November we may well have slipped down the table. However, we do seem to be getting steadily better as we adjust to this division and if we are still up there in two months then speculation will inevitably mount. Automatic promotion seems very unlikely but you don''t have to be that good to sneak up through the play offs. Do we want this at this stage? There''s no doubt we have the potential to be in the top flight but would we settle for being a yo-yo club like West Brom? In the long term the Premiership is what we must strive for and with this manager we have a good chance, providing he stays, but as with alot of things, the journey is sometimes more exciting than the arrival.
  2. Seen City at 50 clubs'' grounds, including non-league York and different grounds at Bolton,Man City,Wigan, Reading,Sunderland, Coventry, Derby, Stoke, Hull, Huddersfield and Bradford, as well as Wembley and the Millenium. I''ve also been to 8 other English league grounds and the Nou Camp. Best ground of the lot? Probably Old Trafford. Best experience/ atmosphere? Wins at Anfield, Old Trafford, Portaloo Road, the Millenium [despite the result], St. James when we came back from 2-0 down and we thought we''d be OK in the Premiership and especially for me a 4-0 thumping of Leeds [ where I live]. Worst ground? Grimsby. Worst experience? The defeat at Leeds that sent us out of the Premiership. I''d love to do all 92 but too many are in the South and I''d only achieve it if I set out to do so. Something for my retirement perhaps! OTBC
  3. I''ve been living up here in Leeds for 35 years since I came to university but I''m Norwich born and bred. I''ve been to many away games in that time with a few highs and many lows, especially that defeat to Leeds on the last game of the season in ''95 which sent us out of the Premiership. I usually go if City are playing in the North and occasionally games in the Midlands. My son [21] and my daughter [18] have been brought up int he true faith and often accompany me. I also have two friends in Wakefield who I sometimes travel with depending on the location of the game. Sometimes I have space in my car, so if you''re stuck get in touch. We will be going to the Wednesday game and will probably meet up with some other exiles in a pub called the Horse and Jockey on Wadsley Lane.
  4. There seems to be a groundswell in favour of Crouch returning should that become a possibility. Now I only saw him once, at Preston, where he was not especially impressive and his goals to games ratio is not outstanding. Sure he helped galvanise the team in September, but is he any better than what we already have. Matt Svensson has improved with games under his belt, although I''m not sure how he''ll hack it in the top flight. I''d be interested in the opinion of people who saw Crouch regularly as to why he would be an asset in the Premier.
  5. Me and the lad,who I''ve brought up properly I hasten to add, are feeling pretty good at the moment. Like me he remembers with some bitterness shouting our hatred for Robert Chase 9 years ago at Elland Road and it will be neatly ironic if we replace Leeds. Anyway, in savouring the moment I''ve been reflecting on past championship seasons and thinking about how they compare. The ''72 team was based on strong defence and teamwork but not alot of flair. The ''86 team had a number of talented players and went up in similar style to this time, hitting the front at Xmas and staying there. How well does this team compare? How would we do without Huckerby? A second point of comparison. How do the feelings of satisfaction compare? It was pretty good on the pitch at Watford in ''72 after the game but I can''t recall alot of co-ordinated celebration during the game. In ''86 we seemed to calmly coast to the title but this year has been phenomenal. The level of support at Reading was a joy to be part of and we''re really looking forward to Sunderland.
