All season we on this forum and people in the media has maintained that "on paper" we have a very good squad.  So why has it underperformed.

For me, part of the problem is that a lot of our players are very similar and maybe that has caused difficulties in forming a cohesive team.

At the back we have the Doc and Shackell, for me both solid centre backs who tackle well and are strong in the air.  For me though, neither has any real pace and neither look very comfortable with ball but  they could yet form a good partnership.

In midfield, we have Hughes, Safri and Robinson who all really want to play the holding role between defence and midfield.  You can''t really play two of those three in that role so it means one of them has to play where they are not best suited, as an attacking midfielder.  Ideally those players are best utilised by asking them to protect the the defence, keep the ball moving when they get it and keeping it simple.  The only real option is to pair one of those 3 with Etuhu.

Up front well we have Huckerby, Earnshaw, Mckenzie and Henderson.  All small and pacey, not ideal for forming a strike pairing unless you are called Bebeto and Romario.  You have the option to pair any of those with Jarvis (not much experience), Thorne (is he still here?) or McVeigh.  McVeigh is an intellegant footballer who could make goals for the likes of Earnie and Hux but again he is small and it is nice to have the option of a direct ball to tall striker as a get out.

Anyone feel we may have some good players who maybe just don''t quite fit together?
