littleyellowbirdie 3,143 Posted March 16, 2023 It's pretty miserable seeing the team most of us thought was a given for promotion at the start of the season fall further away from the playoff positions. It's only made worse that it happened so ignonimously, by throwing away a win with an own goal playing against a team that failed to achieve a single shot on target that's rooted in the relegation zone. However, for all the huge array of criticisms that can be made of the sorry shows we've seen the last two games, these are the same players and the same manager that gave us a string of formidable successes only games before. For all the criticism of the squad, we have players who are worth having among our squad. Sargent, Nunez, and Sara have all shown they can deliver for us. Sargent doesn't seem to have been too tainted by the defeatism permeating the club, and hopefully Nunez and Sara haven't been here long enough for that to happen. McLean and Hernandez both seem to have indomitable spirits that are arguably going to be important in sparking some positive spirit in the club. Idah clearly has the belief of our current manager to progress, even if a lot of fans don't seem convinced. Sorenson and Dowell both seem worth having as well. Collectively, the whole squad has delivered outstanding performances for us among the bad ones. Wagner has not been here that long and initially delivered some truly epic performances that every got maximum enjoyment of with this whole squad. We can survive failing to be promoted; arguably there's more fun to be had chasing promotion in the Championship than there is trying to survive in the Premier League anyway. With that said, the promotion chase isn't over until it's mathematically impossible; for those that prioritise promotion there's every reason to get behind the team. For those that don't prioritise promotion, there's every reason to relax and turn up to each game encouraging the players to deliver the four-goal epics we first saw on Wagner's arrival. There has been more and more recognition on here that the club's spirit may be fundamentally broken at the moment at every level, from Delia and Michael at the top, through to the players, down to a large chunk of the fans who turn up at Carrow Road. If the biggest thing at the root of our malaise is simply a broken spirit, then fans digging deep and finding it in themselves to bring as much spirit as possible to games sounds like a worthwhile strategy to pursue in healing the club's wounds from the extreme rollercoaster of the last several seasons. Never mind the danger; on the ball, City.
