I think that was just about the best response we could have hoped for in the circumstances.
The change in formation made it harder to break us down and also gave us a more coherent attack. Aside from Dowell who had an absolute mare, it was round pegs in round holes. And what a difference that made.
If he doesn't immediately revert to the 4-3-3 then this definitely buys Dean Smith some time. We just need to see evidence that the mistakes have been learnt from rather than it simply being a fluke.
The biggest positive was seeing Gibbs paired with Hayden in a genuine double pivot. It's what we've been crying out for and made a huge difference. Gibbs was my man-of-the-match.
Ramsey finally added some end product to his endeavour. He worked hard without the ball as well as taking his chances with class.
What we need to see now is that we can build from this. Same starting 11 apart from Cantwell in for Dowell. Same formation. Same energy.
McLean must not walk back into the starting 11.
We're at a crossroads. It's great to see a response and a change from the plan that was clearly failing. Now we have to cement that.
