  1. I can''t see how folk can say "in" or "out" without knowing what the alternatives are.

    Firing a manager without a replacement makes no sense, unless one believes the vacancy will attract interest that hadn''t previously put itself forward. Given that we had a vacancy as recently as June this year I don''t think much will have changed and therefore it is unlikely that new candidates will emerge (unless we''re talking about Magath et).

    My qualified response is "out" but only as long as the replacement promises;

    (a) a marked improvement from where we are now;

    (b) a reasonable expectation of promotion;

    (c) intelligent and attractive football.

  2. Thank you for the tips this week.

    After much thought and having studied the intestines of a pheasant (roadkill when I was walking the dog) and seeking to incorporate as many tips as I can, my picks are as follows:

    1. Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe to score anytime (Purple, Parma)

    2. Norwich to win (city-til-i-die, Hissing Sid, Mr Apples, LDC, NN, Hector B)

    3. Under 2.5 goals (cityangel, LDC, Hector B, Til1010, jb)

    4. Turner to score (NN, Diesel Doris)

    5. Score draw (Yellow future, The Great Drinkell, Kathy, cityangel, Trent, Til1010)

    6. Norwich to win 3-1

    We can’t win all six but I hope that represents the consensus.

  3. Just for information/interest, this is an extract from the BBC''s coverage of Guardiola''s new book.

    Barcelona''s ability to dominate teams and possession with their tiki-taka passing style won them plaudits around the world.

    But Guardiola told Perarnau: "I loathe all that passing for the sake of it, all that tiki-taka. It''s so much rubbish and has no purpose. You have to pass the ball with a clear intention, with the aim of making it into the opposition''s goal. It''s not about passing for the sake of it.

    "Don''t believe what people say. Barca didn''t do tiki-taka! It''s completely made up! Don''t believe a word of it! In all team sports, the secret is to overload one side of the pitch so that the opponent must tilt its own defence to cope.

    "You overload on one side and draw them in so that they leave the other side weak. And when we''ve done all that, we attack and score from the other side.

    "That''s why you have to pass the ball, but only if you''re doing it with a clear intention. It''s only to overload the opponent, to draw them in and then to hit them with the sucker punch. That''s what our game needs to be. Nothing to do with tiki-taka."

  4. Ricardo,

    When you''re ready to predict the election outcome I''ll sponsor a PuPs bet.

    William Hill''s current betting is:

    10/11 no overall majority

    15/8 Labour majority

    10/3 Conservative majority

    100/1 UKIP majority

    500/1 Lib Dem majority
