1. Can you imagine what will happen if they finish 12th and above us? It will be their greatest achievement in 16 years - and probably heralded with at least an open top bus trip around the docks . That flat bloke that does the breakfast show on Radio Suffolk (who always drags out a tee shirt with Delia wearing an ITFC rosette - I assume it did once fit him many years ago ) will be uncontrollable.

Let''s face it Middlesbrough will send the Under 23s out against them - they wont risk any injuries or red cards.

  2. This was a popular view at the time . Clough and many others felt that people wouldn''t go if they could listen to the game.

Hard to believe now, but back in the day , the authorities, and clubs , were concerned about televising live games as they felt it would reduce attendances. When ITV first started showing live games , I remember a big debate about it. Of course it seems that it was misplaced , as covering games just made the sport more popular and glamorous , and now doesn''t seem to have any effect on gates.

    Times change.

Agreed AJ. JR on form is undoubtedly a Premier League player imo.

I could never understand why Benno got so much stick on here, so many seemed to be unable to see his obvious quality, really pleased that he’s doing well and is appreciated.

Agree. Bennett is a good player , very committed and just what we needed at the time. Sticking him next to Martin didn''t help. Neither did the injuries.

I saw some real twaddle written on here about RB.

  4. "Style of Play" is a much discussed issue, but in truth its all about results. Those of us that remember the blood and thunder of Wimbledon , still one of the best examples of "direct passing" I''ve seen , watched them win the FA Cup . In those days would you have taken us winning the Cup like that? I certainly would.

The Binners flocked to Portaloo to watch them boot the ball up to Murphy . Once they sold him to Newcastle , and they lost a good exponent of that method, suddenly the "Style" became the issue. Rubbish . it was the results that became the issue.

If the boys from Lincoln belt it up to the big lad , and it works, they will be back there in the droves. They might even get 18,000 again.

  5. ridgeman Seems like Webber has got his feet under the table and the fans can poke off if they don''t like the football. Be very very careful what you wish for Webber.

A cynic might say that Webber is plucking the low hanging fruit . Blame everyone else , sell your easier to sell players , create a marketing mantra of Work In Progress , and last as long as you can .

He came here with his stock high having taken full credit for Huddersfield and by and large is looking to replicate it. A big PR push - community and family - and he cleverly isn’t putting any time scale on it. The villains are all the folk that aren’t here anymore. Oh and Naismith of course .

Let’s see in another 12 months . I’ll still be in the Upper Barclay Mr W if you are still with us.

  6. The night we lost at Brentford sticks in my mind for two reasons.

That night City were at the lowest league position they had ever been in my lifetime - I was born mid sixties (Lambert sat in the Stands that night - I''m happy to say it got a lot better after that)

The Chippy we called into after the game had run out of chips.

  7. My point was, and I quote

An interesting measure - the actual gate tomorrow.

No mention of good or bad, just a measure.

    A measure, against other matches.

We may sit in our seats and be aware of very few seats around us being vacant, or we may see rather more space than usual.

Anyone that thinks that a club "moving forward" isn''t measured by actual attendance is more than entitled to think that way or indeed feel that this is in some way ambiguous.

    Lets see.

  8. Thanks for that Nutty. But I''m going to stick to my view on that. Empty seats that have already been purchased and all that. No idea how many are "apparently" doing anything. That''s something I guess you have a better handle on than me.

That''s why I used the word "actual" .

Of course we won''t actually know - unless we are sat there and can see the seats around us.

  9. Buncey if you are still around - I''d love your views on my thoughts - and I certainly wont take anything you say as advice (I am an "Approved Person" - under FCA so I completely understand your position)

I don''t quite follow how a bond - without any security - can sensibly promise a return that is so much higher than the current similar issues. The only potential returns / income streams that I can see are Promotion to the Premiership (this is easy enough to follow) - or perhaps a sale of another Josh Murphy (complete with Tax issues) which seem highly unlikely in the 5 year time frame.

So in order to give 5% back (the other 3% is a bit of a red herring from an open market investment point of view) it must rely on simply investing the money? The trouble is they wont have the cash to invest , because it will go into capital projects such as new facilities ?

So, on the face of it , it doesn''t quite make sense?

Add in the charges of Luca Vialli''s company (why else would they do it) and this is one hell of a leap of faith ? Most higher rate bonds seem to be linked to property, or Renewables that have a value and or an income stream.

So what am I missing here Buncey?
I thought I''d share some thoughts. As an introduction I''m a Chartered Accountant and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments. And my professional career has been principally in advising private equity clients. Please note I''m not an FCA authorised financial adviser. The rest of my post is for information purposes and should not be considered to be advice recommending or not whether to invest in the bond. If you are considering making an investment, you should ensure you read all the documents yourself and conduct your own research. You should think about getting advice from and FCA authorised independent financial adviser. With that out of the way...

Bonds like this, often called "mini-bonds" are an increasingly popular way for small private companies to raise money. In this post I''ll talk about the details of the bond. I''ll do another post about why the board may have gone down this route. At the moment, the bond prospectus isn''t available, so we don''t have all the information - it looks like it will be published on the 28th March.

The first thing to note about the bond is that it offers 8% interest paid each year. This is a high rate compared to high street fixed savings deposits. However, there are three major drawbacks to this.

Firstly, 3% of the "interest" is in the form of credit with the club - and it appears, from the limited information available, that it can''t be used towards Season Ticket costs (the major expenditure for the majority of fans). Secondly, at a high street bank you have the protection of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) which means that if you bank goes bust you get up to £85,000 back. This bond has no such protection.

Secondly, it appears (although there isn''t enough information yet to be certain) that this bond is unsecured. i.e. even though you''ve lent the money to fund the Academy''s development, you have no collateral over it or any other assets of the Club. If the Club goes into administration, you''ll be the last people owed money, and would likely get little to nothing back.

Is it likely that the Club would go under? That of course is a very difficult question. The club, as discussed when the finances were released, is having cash difficulties since relegation. Also, given the historical position of the majority owners towards debt, the club wouldn''t likely be issuing this bond if it had the cash available to develop the Academy facilities. I have personally invested in a mini-bond of a company that has recently gone into administration (I successfully redeemed before the fall of the company, many others have not). And there have been numerous instances of other companies failing and leaving bond holders with a loss.

Thirdly, you have to tie up this money for 5 years. Usually with mini-bonds, there is absolutely no way you can get the money early (unlike with some savings accounts where you can, with a penalty). We don''t know the terms yet, but if you are thinking of investing, you have to be prepared to not have the money invested for at least 5 years, with no way of "getting it out".

Another thing to consider is tax. As other have noted, lower rate tax payers (20%) have a savings allowance of £1,000; higher rate (40%) have an allowance of £500. Any aggregate savings interest below this amount is tax free. If, when you add up all your interest for the year, it is above the allowance you will have tax to pay. This will probably (although I can''t say for certain) include the 3% credit, as this is counted for interest for HMRC''s purposes (not that, if it doesn''t meet certain criteria the whole 3% credit may be taxable as it won''t be covered by the allowances). The interest is payable each year. Also, it''s not clear whether the 3% credit rolls up (i.e. if you don''t use it, you lose it). If you currently earn significant interest income, you should carefully think about your tax position, as you may need to do a self-assessment tax return, please speak to an accountant (preferably a charted accountant!)

The 25% bonus is a particularly unusual element of this bond. It would appear quite generous as there is a possibility (depending on how pessimistic you are!) that the club will reach promotion in the next 5 years. Do bear in mind however, that if the Club is promoted, then the need for this bond likely disappears and the club may redeem the bond early. We don''t have the details yet, but read carefully about the early redemption clause - I''m speculating here, but conceivably the club could redeem the bond the day / match before we are promoted making no bonus payable (although that would be a pretty odious thing to do... but I''ve worked for many companies that do that kind of thing).

Finally, there is of course the emotional element to this bond. You would be helping the Club we all love, at a particularly difficult time. There is an element of pride in seeing us build facilities for our Club''s future. In addition, there are a number of "Investor Privileges", some of which are things that are not generally commercial available and may attract a large sentimental value for many fans. When it comes to these sentimental things, do try to weigh up how much the are worth financially to you, and what price you''d be willing to pay for them were it not for this investment. That way you can try to work out what the return on the investment is and compare that to the risk you''d be picking up.
10. GPs Beard The reality is that at Colney there is a photograph of our goal celebration at Wembley after Jerome scores. All the players have now left to be replaced by ... well to be replaced. That is the reality of the revolution , and we will finish in our lowest league position for some time.

Peoples take on this largely reflects their agenda, or their overall take on the Club

Westcoast canary The reason those players have now left is quite simple; they failed to deliver the club''s single most important objective, in some cases having had two chances to deliver it. The so-called "revolution" is not about who is in the squad; it''s about modernising and professionalising every aspect of the playing side of the business, from its administration to the style of play at all levels. The fact is this "revolution" should have been instituted years ago; that it wasn''t demonstrates just how badly it was needed.

Actually westcoast those players who "failed", won the playoffs and got us up. That''s why they are celebrating at Wembley. That was sort of the point.

One of them is Redmond. How did he fail us?

  11. Interesting. The "webberlution" , and the quality of football subjective or otherwise, are separate issues IMO.

The Webberlution ,some may say, is a reaction to a given set of financial circumstances . We are looking to exist on our income, which is falling, and we need to cut our cloth. Having spoken to some of the key individuals what I would say is that this is a very effective piece of PR.

Last night we saw a continued example of lots of possession in relatively neutral areas of the pitch. DF''s default is to keep the fullbacks wide in possession, but this leads to lack of bodies in transition - and Forest nearly scored twice in the first half because of it. Sides like Forest, Bolton , Ipswich, Burton work this out - leave the fullbacks and overload the key areas - so our play is restricted to areas where you are unlikely to score from. So I''m afraid I don''t see this as a revolution, I see it as a coach with a desire to play in a certain way, and not being able to break sides down. One goal at home in three games - caused ironically from a long ball, a cross and an unmarked header supports this view.

The reality is that at Colney there is a photograph of our goal celebration at Wembley after Jerome scores. All the players have now left to be replaced by ... well to be replaced. That is the reality of the revolution , and we will finish in our lowest league position for some time.

  12. For those of us that have never heard of him - it doesn''t help when we go to Google and the OP has apparently misspelt his name!

Seems Kenny MacLean is a little known Pop Star . Kenny McLean however plays for Aberdeen.

If , and I doubt it very much, he is the replacement for Madisson , I am so underwhelmed I might go back to bed.

I find it strange that something as relatively unimportant as booing from a reasonably small section of the crowd by all accounts is becoming an albatross around peoples necks.

That some people have chosen to select the age old method of showing disapproval is way down on the list.

It reminds me of people posting that insteadof posting negative things on here, they should "get behind the team" and post positively.

People get what they want out of football and supporting their club and don''t need a sermon on how to behave. Booing is not a big deal.

Chucking bananas at John Barnes was.

Spot on Keelan. What an absolute nonsense to suggest you can''t boo at a football game. In fact I boo''ooooed rather more "0"''s than the OPs suggests. Perhaps the OP could give us guidance on what we can say and in what context , during the game , because of course we are all entirely rational whilst watching NCFC.

I should tell you that as well as booing , I also wore a new hat , bought for me by my daughter. In my world of irrational support of NCFC , not only did the booing help change the game, far more importantly my hat gave us the edge. My hat has lead us out of the doldroms to seeing us gain 7 pts our of 9 since I first wore it on Christmas day.

When the hat loses its magic , I might revert to the beard that secured us promotion in 2004, but definitely not the bloody silk scarf that saw us lose twice at Wembley in the 70''s. In fact thinking about it I didn''t shave yesterday either so that might have nicked the win.

I boo, stamp, cheer , scream , laugh, cry, wear a hat, don''t wear a hat based on whatever irrational mood takes me at any given time during a football match.

That''s what being a football fan is all about isn''t it? Imagine having the self control and conscious processes of the OP. Bet he is fun at parties.
