  1. For the older fans like myself:

Bryan Gunn - Forest, 1994 (?) - broken (and dislocated) ankle.

We were sixth (from memory) with Gunn and a talented young reserve keeper (Andy Marshall). Gunn out for the rest of the season. After a brilliant start, the young keeper struggles; loanee keepers also struggle to establish themselves. "Soft" goals given away. Relegated.

The need for a new keeper is not a reflection on Ruddy, who has done well. We cannot, however, afford the risk of going into our Premier league return with just one experienced keeper. It is only sensible to assume that Ruddy will get injured/ lose form (even if it is not the case) and think of what we do in the circumstances. In this case we need the best keeper we can afford - and if that means that both keep each other on their toes, so much the better.

In stating the need for a new keeper, people are not criticising Ruddy but recognising the importance of the position he occupies and the need for strength in depth.

  2. "the article is pretty accurate..."

    Really?... Well

    1. “...and used an expletive which had some parents reaching to cover their children’s ears.”

I have to be honest, I didn''t see a single parent reaching to cover their children''s ears - did anybody else?

    2. “She was holding the microphone at a funny angle like she thought she was a pop singer.”

Nor sure - couldn''t see the angle from where I was - but I''m not sure what a pop singer angle is - perhaps the mail could clarify?

    3. "Everyone was relieved when it came to an end.”

Nope - I know at least three people that weren''t! I suspect there were many others.

This is typical Daily Mail nonsense - make up a few things - shove it in quotation marks - and try to leave everybody with the impression that it''s the truth. If it''s challenged, of course, the defence is - we were only reported what people said!

SEWER journalism - as usual. How anybody ever believes a word published in this chip paper is beyond me.

  3. Muddy - that''s how I remember it.

I don''t like the lack of loyalty that we show to some players who have left us. Given the shortage of money that we have had, I thinnk that several of our players that are regarded as "deserters" were actually forced out.

There is also the issue of the personalities of some of our managers - take the Hoolahan "silence" over his views of Roeder in the article yesterday (as the paper put it "safe to assume, he is not on Hoolahan''s Christmas card list!"). If you are working 6 days a week with someone you hate, it must be hard.

  4. Would fit the bill well. Young with potential and something to prove. Very inexperienced but seems to have done well on loan. Also been capped a couple of times by Belgium. The other very useful thing is that he can play left back as well as centre back.

  5. I think he is a fantastic player and was brilliant at city.

But yes, could be a problem - I''m sure he would fit into the work ethic and would "bust a gut" but I think he might be too challenging for Lambert. He never did suffer fools - or anyone that he thought was wrong.

  6. I think that a back up keeper would be sensible. Goalkeeping is in many ways a unique position and we need experienced cover. I am not denigrating Ruddy in any way - he has done a great job this year, but we need experienced back up and someone to challenge him as well. I would say exactly the same if we had Iker Casillas and the two youngsters.

I remember the way the season nose-dived after Bryan Gunn''s injury in the mid 90s (94?). As I remember it we were 6th at the time of the original injury and the season ended with us being relegated and the long period of wilderness starting. We had a talented but inexperienced keeper at the time Andy Marshall who played a blinder in his first game but was inconsistent thereafter. We also brought in loanees as well (a Shef Utd keeper, who was useless springs to mind - tracy?) but this didn''t work out either.

Ruddy is quite young himself and there is always the danger of loss of form or injury and we can''t afford for history to repeat itself.

  7. I agree with Wacky''s post - how can you question Green''s loyalty?

He was here for ever, cost us nothing, and we obtained a decent fee for him when we needed money. He has spoken positively about Norwich since leaving as well.

He didn''t "jump ship" but tried to get us back up. A player can''t deny the chance to further his career for ever - and let''s be honest none of us would refuse the extra money that he gained from it.

Talk about loyalty - how about the fans showing a little loyalty to players that always did their best for us?

  8. Some of our fans have been pretty disloyal to some individual players that have served us well over the years and then moved on - eg the Doc thread Essex Canary started yesterday

+ some of our fans have picked on players that have been going through difficult spells on the pitch - including Simeon Jackson earlier in the year.

In both cases these were a minority, but I suspect that the vitriol being poured out on the Cardiff board is more intense than many of the Cardiff fans would write. You can''t draw conclusions about the whole group of Cardiff fans, any more than you could about ours.

The other issue is that they probably had higher expectations than we did - they got close last year and added Bellamy this season - this can only have intensified the disappointment.
